Job Description

Contracts and Commercial ConsultantEdinburgh or Scottish BordersTo £40K plus extensive benefits packagePosition Summary:Our client is looking for a Contracts and Commercial Consultant to support their work with a high-profile and long term customer. The role is to deliver Contract Management improvements to the customer in a complex and exciting environment.Job role responsibilities will include:

  • Understand, agree and deliver against the Terms of Reference for your role
  • Effectively negotiate with the client and subcontractors, identifying and mitigating key, every day commercial risks
  • Identify and use the correct contract vehicle for day to day client and subcontractor business
  • Provide effective support for new business and post-contract queries, with guidance from more senior members of the Contracts and Commercial team
  • Exert positive influence over both internal’ and external’ clients and subcontractors in negotiation situations
  • Planning, scheduling, monitoring and reporting against completion of commercial tasks
  • Having the ability to understand risks and suggest appropriate mitigations whilst reviewing the contract and amendments to it in line with company guidelines
  • Identifying areas where senior management support and/or intervention is required
  • Working effectively across multiple supply channels (e.g. internal, client, subcontractors and partners)
  • Identifying the potential for contractual disputes and seeking support in preventing a dispute occurring
  • Ensuring that the contract records are kept up to date
  • Taking preventive actions as appropriate; raising issues with a Senior Commercial Manager
  • Understanding and applying standards and best practice
  • Under guidance from a Senior Commercial Manager supporting opportunities to grow the account, including new business
  • Understanding Customer feedback and assisting in improving client satisfaction and experience
  • Sharing knowledge of the contract with the wider team to foster commercial awareness
  • Working collaboratively and cooperatively with other members of the team
  • Providing guidance and support to Foundation and Level 1 Contracts and Commercial members
  • Demonstrate commercial innovation
  • Support the development and implementation of negotiation strategies to maximise the business outcomes of issues
  • Skills, qualifications, and experience required:The ideal person for this role will have a few years’ experience in an equivalent industry with a track record of having managed a variety of different contracts. Experience of working within a consultancy environment or an IT managed services business is highly desirable. An understanding of pre-sales and winning bids is highly desirable too.You must have a Degree Level Education (Preferably in Legal/Business/Finance related discipline) or equivalent via an apprenticeship, and it would be highly desirable if you have a relevant professional membership such as IACCM CCME. A thorough understanding of contract law is essential.You must have a professional approach to business and must be confident and capable of challenging situations with clients and subcontractors. You will be direct but diplomatic with the ability to say "no" without causing offence. You must be calm under pressure, and a team player with good negotiating skills. You must be resilient and able to manage pressurized situations and multiple bits of work at different stages.This role can be based out of your choice of offices in either Edinburgh or Scottish Borders, and you will be required to have a flexible attitude towards travel.About the company:Our client is a global Tier 1 company involved in many leading mission critical projects.
