Job Description

Meraki Talent have been retained by St Georges School in Edinburgh to appoint a permanent Business Director.Background to St Georges SchoolSt Georges School, Edinburgh is an independent day and boarding school for girls aged 3-18, with approximately 720 students. It was founded in 1888, and its fundamental aim is to provide an excellent education for girls. It occupies its main campus closeto Murrayfield and the centre of Edinburgh.We are an all-through girls school comprising a Nursery (aged 3-5), a Junior School (Primary 1-5), a Lower School on an adjacent campus (Primary 6-S1), an Upper School (S2-S6) and Houldsworth (Boarding) House. We accept boys in our Nursery and by 2024 willwelcome boys up to the end of Primary 3. Our academic results are outstanding and approximately 97% of our students go on to university.We aim to promote the development of each of our students and to prepare her for adult life and work. Our curriculum is broad and balanced.The school is open to change and improvement in every aspect of its activities, and the main thrust of its development underlines our unswerving commitment to excellence.Additional information about St Georges can be obtained by investigating St Georges School website at: http://www.stge.org.uk.The RoleThe Business Director (BD) at St Georges is a relatively new position. The incumbent will provide strategic leadership on all commercial and financial aspects of the school, as well as having overall responsibility for the management of the support functionsof the School.The BD is responsible and accountable to the schools Governing Council and any of its constituent Committees. On a day to day basis the BD will report to the Head and will have responsibility for the management and strategic leadership of the Schools Finance,Facilities and Health and Safety functions. Direct reports to the BD will be the Facilities Department managers, the IT infrastructure manager and the finance team.The BD will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team, will Chair the Facilities Management Team and will play a key role in the IT Management Group.As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the BD will be expected to represent the School at external events, to be an ambassador for the School and promote the ethos of St Georges at all times.On OfferThe role of Business Director will offer:

  • Highly competitive base salary
  • Annual leave: 8 weeks/40 days

  • Fee Remission: at the discretion of Council this is 50% fee reduction (from tuition fees only)
  • Hybrid working: 3 days within the office and 2 days at home

Person Specification Applicants should have considerable managerial and financial experience with a hands-on approach.
