Job Description

Pertemps Scotland Ltd are working with our client in East Lothian to recruit for a Building Standards Surveyor for a 12 month period.The role: Assess & Process both electronic and paper applications for building warrant and amendment to ensure compliance with Building Standards Regulations.Day Rate of £180 - £200 inside IR35.09.00hrs to 17.00hrs Monday to Friday (35 Hr/week)Work base John Muir House Haddington however workload can cover East Lothian geographical areaKey responsibilities include:

  • Assess & Process both electronic and paper applications for building warrant and amendment to ensure compliance with Building Standards Regulations.
  • Inspect buildings, works and projects to ensure compliance with the conditions of warrant and
  • Building Standards Regulations and for the purposes of issuing/accepting certificates of completion and certificates of temporary occupation.
  • Maintain accurate electronic or paper detailed records of all inspections and investigations.
  • Investigate and prepare reports, collect evidence and represent the Council at Court as a witness in the enforcement of Building Standards Regulations and associated legislation.
  • Assess and issue requests for letters of comfort and property enquiries certificates.
  • Initiate appropriate action in cases of contravention or unauthorised work.
  • Initiate appropriate action in cases of dangerous buildings.
  • Provide advice and guidance on the requirements of the Building Standards Regulations.
  • Contribute to the preparation and implementation of Team Plans and the Service Plan for service delivery aligned with the Council plan.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Council policies and procedures, as required.
  • Building Standards Surveyor/FINAL/Grade 9/ JC: 7121
  • Develop and sustain effective internal and external relationships and appropriate partnerships in relation to the service being provided.
  • Support a culture of continuous improvement using management information and customer feedback.
  • Promote a positive image of Engineering and Building services by providing excellent Customer Care.
  • Promote the Councils vision and values and a corporate culture that is positive, customer focussed and supports employee engagement to the highest standards.
  • Undertake such other duties and responsibilities that may be reasonably required by the service
  • Essential:
  • Educated to HND/Degree Level or equivalent level in Building Surveying or relevant discipline and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through previous experience in site surveying, construction technology and the conversion and adaptation of buildings. S/he must also have experience of Scottish Law for Construction and the Statutory Control of Buildings.
  • Evidence of a commitment to Continual Professional Development.
  • As you are required to travel to manage a workload, you must hold a current driving licence and/or have access to a vehicle.
  • Substantial Building Control experience
  • Significant experience in the legislation and procedures relating to Building Standards policy and practice.
  • Experience of working in a local authority or other complex organisation.
  • Experience in site surveying, construction technology and the conversion and adaptation of buildings.
  • Experience in the Statutory Control of Buildings.
  • Experience of working in a local authority or other complex organisation.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety and other regulations relating to building construction.
  • Competent user of Building Standards related systems such as Idox and Uniform
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office Suite such as Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
  • Understanding of effective customer care.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective organisational and time management skills.
