Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh / Glasgow, is currently looking to recruit an Assistant Financial Accountant for an initial 5 month contract with potential to extend on a rate of £250/day (Inside IR35). This role willbe a hybrid of working at home and in the office.Responsibilities:- Assist with the preparation and delivery of the year end statutory annual accounts. - Gather audit evidence and backup documents and prepare supporting notes for audit review - Assist the Financial Accountant in ensuring that appropriate financial controls are in place, up to date and operating effectively within the finance team and the wider organisation. - Interface with other business areas to assist with the delivery of the production of the annual report and accounts (e.g. communications team) - Assist with VAT compliance, including preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns. - Assist with the management of the Fixed Asset Register (Real Asset Management: Asset 4000) ensuring that all capital assets are accounted for appropriately, providing accurate monthly and annual financial reports including fixed asset additions, disposalsand verifications. Responsible for ensuring the integrity of the capital expenditure incurred and implementing any internal or external audit recommendations. - Be a key point of contact for the finance team, providing support and guidance on financial management including budgeting and forecasting. - Work with others within the organisation and outside agencies to continuously improve service provision and make suggestions for improvements to systems and processes. - Prepare various reconciliations and overview control processes ensuring finance system data is accurate - Any other ad-hoc duties commensurate with the role/gradeEssential Skills:- Have relevant experience of working in a financial environment especially at year-ends. - Competent in the use of Windows based finance systems and Microsoft office applications, as a minimum, have intermediate excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s etc.). - Competent in the use of Finance systems, including data extract and import, to/from MS Excel™ - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate the strategic implications of complex financial issues - Strong analytical skills - able to provide constructive challenge, identify opportunities for improving and streamlining processes, and encouraging colleagues to think innovatively in order to make improvements. - Demonstrates a commercial, financial and sustainable mind set to ensure all activities and services deliver added value. - Works collaboratively to ensure that the organisation delivers its strategic outcomes within the resources available. - Ability to work across teams, planning and driving forward longer-term work whilst managing shorter term demands to deliver to deadlines, and leading teams to deliver high quality outputs under pressure. - Adaptable and willing to review role and priorities to meet the current and future needs of the organisation. - Demonstrable ability to think strategically about financial management issuesIf you would like to hear more about this opportunity please get in touch.Required skills
