The School of Physics and Astronomy is seeking an Administrative Assistant to provide high quality administrative support to the School’s students and academic staff, primarily those within the Institute for Astronomy. Your responsibilities will include travel bookings, ordering catering and stationery supplies, and other general administrative tasks. Based at the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh on Blackford Hill, this post is line managed by the Deputy Academic Administrator on this site.You will be educated to at least standard grade, with previous experience in an administrative role in an office environment. With good time management and organisational skills, you will be able to prioritise a varied workload. This post requires a strong customer service approach, with good communication and interpersonal skills to build positive working relationships. You will be able to carry out day-to-day tasks without detailed supervision, and to work to high levels of accuracy using a pro-active approach to problem solving. You must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook email and using the internet. Previous experience of working in higher education and using databases are both desirable.Whilst based at the Royal Observatory, you may at times be required to work in the James Clerk Maxwell Building, at the King’s Buildings.This is a part-time post of 0.5 FTE, 17.5 hours per week, with the work pattern to be agreed with the successful applicant.Salary: £10,065 to £ 11,209 for 17.5 hours each weekClosing date: Monday 8th June 2020 at 5pm.
