The Haematology Department is a busy department that receives over half a million requests annually and provides a twenty-four hour diagnostic and monitoring service.The department comprises Haematology, Blood Transfusion, and is the nominated Coagulation laboratory for the West Midlands Regional Haemophilia comprehensive care service. The departments equipment includes a Sysmex XN9100 track with integrated Tosoh G11 HPLC analyser, Grifols Eflexis and Erytra analysers, and ACL Tops. The department is fully UKAS, MHRA, and HCPC/IBMS accredited.The Trust is a major Trauma Centre and has the largest Critical Care unit in Europe. It also undertakes the largest number of solid organ transplants in Europe and undertakes cutting edge surgeries, placing a demand on the Blood Transfusion section especially.We are looking to fill the post in Haematology with an AFC Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist, however applicants currently undertaking their Specialist Portfolio, will be considered as an AFC Annex 21 grade on a learning contract. The individual should be experienced, self-motivated, and enjoy working as part of a team. Applicants must have an accredited BSc Degree, HCPC registration and post registration experience in Haematology and Blood Transfusion. You will be encouraged to develop your expertise in your areas of interest such as haematology, morphology, transfusion or specialist coagulation. Further study, scientific posters and papers, and CPD are strongly supported.A new shift system will be rolled out from January 2021 and comprises early, day, mid, late, and night shifts that are all compliant with Agenda for Change. Shifts will be worked as part of 37.5hrs. The successful applicant will be expected to appropriately contribute in all rotas once trained.
