Job Description

Job Title: Health & Safety OfficerSalary: £33,000 DOELocation: Predominantly based at Broxburn, however regular travel to Ayr will be requiredHours: Monday to Friday flexible start between 8.00am - 9.00am - 37.5 hours per weekPosition Purpose StatementTo be responsible for the Health and Safety and training efficiently and effectively in line with the Companys objective to be the Number one food supplier. The role is responsible for the implementation and compliance of the Company Safety Policy, advisingthe Company on matters requiring the attention of the Board of Directors and advising Managers and staff on all aspects of health and safety at work. In addition, the role will be responsible for the design, development and validation of all in house healthand safety training.Key Responsibilities, Tasks and Activities

  • Responsible for ensuring a safe working environment at all sites
  • Responsible for all internal health and safety training for all individuals at all sites
  • In conjunction with operations assisting in ensuring that all departmental skills matrixes are regularly updated.
  • Prepare weekly reports for Line Managers evidencing what training has been completed against weekly training plan.
  • Monitor and regularly evaluate each Department, using the skills matrix to help you ensure that training is prioritized in accordance with our business needs.
  • Ensure that all staff are suitably trained to the correct level and standards in conjunction with the Companys objectives and their own personal development.
  • Work with the Production department to ensure that all planned training is carried out in conjunction with company and legal requirements.
  • To assist the Production in the creation of Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) for all training.
  • Support the Training School Manager in maintaining the effective operation of an internal training school, which will enable the Company to fulfil its business objectives and succession planning with assistance from the key support functions.
  • Responsible for maintaining good communications between relevant departmental managers within the Production area, and other key personnel within the business.
  • Attending daily production meetings.
  • Liaise closely with and react to the needs of the Technical and Hygiene functions in terms of customer specification and legal compliance. Communicate regularly with the technical team and respond to any issues that arise accordingly.
  • Support and maintain an action plan to support the annual Production strategy in consultation with your Production Manager and Senior Production Manager.
  • Contribute effectively to always providing a healthy and safe environment for all on site staff and visitors.
  • Create a training plan, ensuring that realistic training targets are set and agreed
  • Ensure all activities within your areas of responsibility meets and integrates with the company requirements in relation to health and safety, quality management, and complies with legislative regulations, environmental policies.
  • Provide the necessary Health and safety support to ensure that all the relevant standards are met and maintained and ensuring that all individuals are compliant.
  • Responsible for supporting the site in maintaining a high level of cleanliness and hygiene to ensure safe systems of work are adhered to create a professional and lasting first impression for customers and visitors.
  • Ensure at all times a safe working environment without risk to health.
  • Ensure safe plant and machinery, and safe movement, storage and use of articles and substances.
  • Ensure adequate provision of first aid and welfare facilities and support.
  • Support the operation by ensuring that all accident investigations/near miss and RIDDORS are carried out in a timely and appropriate manner, avoid risk to the business.
