Job Title: Design Engineer ManagerLocation: DudleySalary: Up to 55k per yearJob type: Full-Time, PermanentA&T Enclosures aim to make the best quality enclosures on the market. To achieve this, we invest heavily in our staff and new technology.Purpose of role:Leading the team in the performance of a variety of tasks that are project based from initial concepts to full production within defined deadlines and targets. Supporting internal business and external customers with the development of solutions to achieveall the above.The Role/Responsibilities:

• Distribution of work on a daily basis to the engineering team
• To ensure engineers are producing weekly target output hours
• To ensure that engineers designs are achieved to the correct quality within the specified time scale
• To set up standard designs and processes and make sure the engineers adhere to them
• To understand and advise engineers on the companys tested products to BSEN 61439 and certify these are complied with either by type test or design verification
• To reduce mistakes out of engineering by working with the Quality Manager using all the tools to get to the root cause and put in place actions to prevent re-occurrence
• To ensure material usage is kept to a minimum. Do not over engineer the product or give away more than was quoted
• To work with the sales and manufacturing teams to ensure that customer requirements have been met to the company standard
• Liaise with customers where necessary to support engineers
• To ensure that the engineering team, work to all company quality processes
• To ensure that all necessary modifications are carried out to designs
• To chair daily meetings with the engineering team & schedule work in conjunction with Production Planner
• To ensure that the most effective engineering methods are employed
• To develop and coach apprentices and new members of the team
• To develop team-working culture where each employee feels valued and understands how to fulfil both the business objectives and their personal objectives
• To develop the skills of the engineering team
• To liaise effectively with the management team to fulfil the company objectives
• To ensure that the engineering team are properly trained to maximise the use of resources and improve efficiency
• Monitoring employees performance, attendance and timekeeping and conduct
• Implement and maintain a programme of departmental Continuous Improvement and implement lean methods
• Providing accurate reports to the management team at monthly meetings
• Key other duties that may be required from time to time within the scope of this role profile and qualified by prior training and experience

Candidate Requirements:Specific knowledge/skills that are required to perform the role;

• Be a strong people manager with excellent communication and leadership skills
• Have an understanding of electrical engineering and LV switchgear
• Have an understanding of electrical enclosures (an advantage)
• Have an understanding of the enclosure design process
• Have an understanding of 2D and 3D software
• Have experience of working in a manufacturing / engineering environment
• Proven success managing a mixed discipline team

KPIs;

• Development plan for team to improve performance & skill set
• Individual targets daily/ weekly to be set and reviewed
• Management of overtime in the department
• Non-conformances to be reviewed, addressed and reduced in conjunction with the Quality Manager
• To increase team working within the team and across the business
• To achieve quality standards
• To develop lean plan for the department
• To increase efficiency in the engineering department
• To help the business achieve their plans for growth
