Job Description

Job Title: PHP Developer - Moodle, Home basedLocation: Home based with some days at head office in DoncasterSalary: £30,000Benefits: Pension, Home working, Flexible workingThis company is a market leading provider of off-the-shelf and custom-built e-learning products for some of the worlds most recognisable and respected companies. Their product range is developed in-house by experienced Designers and Developers based on Moodle.In this role, you will be working on both existing systems and greenfield projects that are part of the companys core vision and strategy.We are happy for you to spend most of your time working from home with one day per month spent in the office in Doncaster, when COVID restrictions are reduced. The office base will be there whenever you need it.You will work closely with the e-learning development team using your software design and programming skills, including the use of PHP MVC frameworks, MySQL, JavaScript (and associated frameworks) and other emerging web technologies, in a Moodle environment.The RoleReporting to the Head of Learning Technologies you will take a lead on the development and maintenance of our Moodle based systems as well as the coordination system upgrades, integration projects and provide key input into the development direction of the LMS.The successful candidate will have strong development and design skills along with an understanding of UX. The work will include Integration with a bespoke e-commerce system. You will use your knowledge of learning technologies to provide blended learning solutions.You will also get to work on a variety of other e-learning related development projects for some of the worlds largest companies and participate in peer review with the e-Learning development team.You will ideally have some knowledge of OWASP and current best practices in secure coding, ensuring that security and data protection is a key consideration in your work.You will be expected to maintain detailed documentation and work within our source control requirements, also leading on any enhancements to be made to the development process as the team grows.Key Experience RequiredWe are looking for an experienced PHP developer with extensive Moodle experience including the development of custom components, blocks and plugins.Desirable skills:

  • Cross-device development
  • International e-learning standards (SCORM, AICC, xAPI/Tin Can etc.)
  • Distributed version control (GIT/Subversion etc.)
