We have a new opportunity for an experienced, innovative and experienced Engineer to join the Product Engineering Team. You will be joining a business operating from thirteen sites across the UK, USA and Asia. The business have experienced significant growth whose capabilities span a uniquely broad range of photonic technologies: crystal growth, optical materials processing, acousto-optics and electro-optics, active and passive fiber optic components, precision optics, opto-mechanical and medical systems.As part of the Product Engineering team have responsibility for meeting business performance commitments to key stakeholders. Overall responsibility and accountability for all aspects of NPI projects assigned following the NPI process, product design, and process design. Adhere to the product development strategy which provides the site with the market offering to meet the business growth objectives. Support other areas of the business with Project, Product and Process Engineering skills when required through the correct escalation process.RESPONSIBILITIESPerform all aspects of Product Engineering through the NPI and engineering change process to deliver robust designs and processes to Manufacturing, with a full understanding of product performance, material implications, project costs and design for manufacture.Have a full understanding and up-to-date knowledge of the NPI process as well as the requirements of our current (ISO9001) and future (AS9100) quality management systems and at the same time exceed customer expectations in the area of product development.Facilitate and support the infeed from STG and development teams to drive corporate strategy of moving up the food chain and delivering new components to the market.Ensure that all projects assigned are fully auditable to the current site accreditations and work with quality manager to implement any suggested quality improvements.Support the commercial demands of the business and in some instances take the lead with customer communication.Meet deadlines, maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders.Appropriate deployment of NPI processes, meeting all design milestone objectives.Drive and report all assigned Product Engineering projects using tools such as Gantt, Project Status etc. Focusing on agreed KPI’s.Support the technical responsibility for RMA process where appropriate.Timely and correct classification and distribution of assigned PCRs.Accountable for the correct completion PCRs and reporting on PCR progress.Support and challenge Manufacturing Engineering with regards to cost reduction of processes.Support and challenge Supply Chain with regards to cost reduction of components.Support ongoing production where there is a requirement for higher level technical skills or knowledge, when requested through the correct escalation route.We welcome applications from candidates with experience of Photonics and knowledge of its applications. You will understand business system tools, Syspro, NPI, Engineering Change, Modelling software and complete all related activities against company procedures.Be fully versed in project KPIs and understand how actions and project cost, product quality and on time delivery effect site performance.Full understanding and experience of Project Management methods and tools and how to implement these in a multi-disciplined team environment.Have an understanding of STG strategy and objectives and align projects with Product Manager and customer goals.Knowledge of H&S to a level where risk assessments can be carried out and effectively managed.QUALIFICATIONSEngineering (Optics/Electronics/Mechanical/Software) or Science based Degree or equivalent experience.EXPERIENCE3+ years’ experience in an engineering or manufacturing role.Experience in technical design, process development and project management.Proven internal presentation skills.Experience in manufacturing environment essential.Experience in photonics preferable.KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORSAlpha to release timeProject milestone delinquency for assigned projectsQuality corrective action response timeProject cost delinquency for assigned projectsProduct quality performance – Design-related root cause RMAsOverall PCR delivery performanceThis is a full time permanent role, complete with competitive benefits package.
