University Hospitals Plymouth NHS TrustDerriford HospitalPost Title: Trust StR Lower Doctor in CardiologyGrade: CT1/CT2 & ST1/ST2Contract: 12 months, fixed term contractHours: 40 per weekBasic Salary: £38,694 per annumPlease apply via NHS JobsApplications are invited for the post of Lower StR doctor (F2/ core medical trainee level) in Cardiology commencing as soon as possible.The successful candidate would be involved in the care of patients on the cardiology wards – Bickleigh, Braunton and Torcross (Coronary care unit). He/she will take part in the daily planning board round and daily ward rounds of all patients, ensuring immediate assessment of any change of status of patients and instituting appropriate management, alerting the appropriate team members to any such change of status, and completing procedures for agreed discharges. This post involves taking part in the acute cardiology on call rota supported by the on-call ACS consultant and registrar and 1 in 9 cover rota for evening ward cover. Cardiology night shifts involve ward care supported by an on-site cardiology SpR. Ensuring good communication with patients, their carers, and their community teams is an essential part of the duty.In addition to the training opportunities on the consultant and registrar led ward rounds, weekly teaching and monthly CME programme is in place. The department provides opportunities to attend cardiology outpatient clinics, gain competency in cardioversion, attend echocardiography sessions and participate in the procedural aspects in cardiac catheterisation lab and pacing theatre. There will be opportunities to undertake clinical audit and participate in research projects. The post can be tailored to the training needs of the successful candidate. There is an excellent track-record of the junior doctors in cardiology department at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust going on to pursue further training in cardiology at SpR level with a national training number (NTN).The South West Cardiothoracic Centre opened in November 1997. It is the tertiary referral centre for cardiothoracic services for Devon and Cornwall.
