Job Description

NHS Professionals in partnership with University Hospital Plymouth NHS Trust are looking for:Phlebotomists to join the bank.Flexible and long term opportunities are available.Location – Derriford HospitalPay rate – Day rate: £9.21 per hour paid weeklyNight/Saturday rate: £12.98 per hour paid weeklySunday/Bank Holiday rate: £16.85 per hour paid weeklyNHS Professionals is the leading provider of managed flexible workforce services to the NHS with approximately 40,000 nurses, doctors, administration and clerical and other healthcare professionals signed to its bank. We help our 62 NHS Trust clients implement tactical measures to improve workforce efficiency and productivity as part of an overall workforce strategy.We are seeking Phlebotomists who are motivated and enthusiastic with excellent communication and team working skills to join our bank.Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Principle duties are to collect specimens of blood from patients attending the Trust
  • To ensure samples and request forms match with the patient and are labelled correctly for delivery to the Pathology Directorate
  • To report as soon as possible to your line manager any problems that may arise.
  • Following standard operating procedures dispose of used equipment in a safe manner, reducing risks of needle stick injury to yourself and others.
  • To observe all departmental, Trust, national and European Health & Safety regulations relevant to the service, ensuring attendance at the annual departmental H&S update. In addition all staff must sign the departmental H&S policy to acknowledge understanding and compliance.
  • Person specification:
  • A knowledge of venepuncture
  • Understanding of need for patient confidentiality
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety issues
  • Use of IT equipment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise work
  • Attention to detail
