BackgroundAn opportunity exists for an innovative, highly motivated individual with demonstrable leadership experience to work with the Head of Department to deliver the Derriford Combined Laboratory (Blood Sciences) service. The surrounding area of Dartmoor, South Devon and South East Cornwall offer an extraordinary range of natural attractions some of finest scenery in the world.The PostThis is a progressive, modern and very busy department performing approx. 8 million tests per annum, which is looking for an enthusiastic person to lead an excellent team of scientific, technical and support staff. You will have demonstrable experience of leadership and management; have excellent organisational skills and work well under pressure. Experience of developing and redesigning services and implementing change with a high degree of positive staff engagement are essential requirements of this post.This is an exciting time for UHP Pathology. The service line is actively planning the refurbishment of the Pathology accommodation, development of Pathology in Community settings and ongoing collaboration with network laboratories in Devon and Cornwall. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute positively to these projects. Whilst the Department is well equipped, there will be opportunity to refresh equipment, introduce new technologies and improve services to meet the challenges of the future.The post holder is responsible for the safety, quality and efficiency of the services and will work with a team of clinicians and scientists to lead the planning and delivery of these services to achieve operational performance standards and its financial obligations through effective leadership and service improvement.We are the largest teaching hospital in the South West and are a tertiary referral centre for many specialties.
