Job Description

Integrated Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technician ApprenticeshipUniversity hospitals Plymouth are working collaboratively with Livewell Southwest and Sound Primary Care Network to offer an exciting opportunity for the first of its kind, Integrated Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship post across the Acute and Primary care sectors in Plymouth. This brand new innovative post will enable the apprentice to undertake diverse cross sector training across the three key healthcare setting; Acute Hospital, Community Hospital and General Practice to become a fully qualified Pharmacy Technician.The lead employer University hospitals Plymouth (UHP) offers a dynamic and challenging environment, which provides acute healthcare for people in Plymouth, South West Devon and South East Cornwall, and has more than 6,390 staff working in its services. LSW cover a diverse range of clinical care, community physical and mental healthcare and adult social care. Both UHP and LSW work alongside Primary care networks to deliver healthcare to the population of Plymouth and the surrounding areas.Sound Primary Care Network is a group of 6 GP Practices representing over 41,000 patients across the population of Plymouth in Budshead Medical Centre, Elm Surgery, Estover Surgery, Friary House Surgery, Oakside surgery, Southway Surgery.As system partners UHP, LSW and Sound PCN jointly deliver Clinical Pharmacy Services to Acute, Primary, Secondary and Urgent care including wards and inpatient units, outreach teams, general practice, older people, care homes, and rapid assessment servicesThe Pharmacy departments at University hospitals Plymouth, Livewell Southwest and Sound PCN are seeking a Pre-registration Pharmacy Technician to begin a vocational training programme commencing in February 2021. The training opportunity is an advanced apprenticeship, full time, fixed term contract for 2 years. You will study to achieve:

  • Pharmacy Technician (integrated) apprenticeship
  • Training assessment and support will be provided by work based mentors and college tutors. All apprenticeship standards will have an end-point assessment. An independent organisation will conduct an independent end-point assessment to ensure all apprentices are following the same standards and are being assessed consistently.Successful completion of this qualification will enable you to apply for registration to practice as a registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPhCCourse Entry Requirements5 GCSE’s (or equivalent qualification) Grade C or above (4-9) including:
  • Grade C or above in English, Maths, Science subjects (double or triple or BTEC L3 in applied science) IT plus 1 other.
  • An equivalent qualification, or relevant experience for IT is acceptable – remaining 4 qualifications must be GCSE level
  • The salary for this training post is 70% (year 1) & 75% (year 2) annex 21 of a band 4Proposed interview dates will be on the 4TH and 5th of January 2021. As we expect a high demand then the advert may be closed to applications earlier than anticipated. Successful applicant(s) must be available to be in post by the 1st of February 2021.
