Test Rig Design Lead - Thermal Hydraulic TestingMake a difference with a world class companyAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Test Rig Design Lead - Thermal Hydraulic Testing, to work for Rolls-Royce SMR in Derby or Warrington on projects that will contribute to the global reduction of carbon emissions. This is a unique opportunity to beinvolved in the design project for a new nuclear power station and the establishment of a world class testing capability. Blueprint Recruitment, working with Rolls-Royce SMR and Morson RPO, is looking for a talented and ambitious engineer to join Rolls-RoyceSMRs innovative and dynamic Test Capability Team.About the Company:Rolls-Royce SMR is a new business, specifically created to design, construct and deliver a new fleet of Small Modular Reactor power plants that will contribute to Net Zero carbon emissions globally. Created through Rolls-Royces passion for engineering excellenceand with world class investment, this is an exciting new business which expects to become a leading player in the future of energy.About the Role:The Test Rig Design Lead for Thermal Hydraulic Testing will be responsible for technical and programme delivery of one or more test rigs. The role involves leading a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop test rig designs, providing technical guidanceand engaging with internal and external stakeholders.The Development Engineering organisation itself has responsibilities for proving that the SMR power station design meets its objectives and requirements. This will encompass the area of nuclear engineering as well as the broader scope of delivering a majorinfrastructure project.About You:You will be a Chartered Engineer (or working towards professional accreditation) and have a degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Mathematics or a related discipline. You will also have:

  • Good knowledge of fluid-mechanics and thermodynamic fundamentals.
  • Process system design experience, including responsibility for technical and project leadership in a relevant field. This could be gained from any process plant industry.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering principles is desirable.
  • A willingness to challenge conventional thinking, with the desire to make a difference.
Key Responsibilities of the Role will be:
  • Lead a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop test rigs from concept through to detailed design and operation.
  • Utilise systems and process engineering techniques to ensure that an optimum design is produced.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to Test Rig Design Engineers with engineering assessments such as fluid flow analyses, vessel sizing and heat exchanger requirements.
  • Support the procurement team to identify and select suppliers and facilities to deliver the test rigs and build strong working relationships with suppliers.
  • Act as technical authority for the assigned test rigs and represent the Rig Design Manager at technical reviews when required.
