Job Description

Test Rig Design Engineer - Fluid SystemsMake a difference with a world class companyAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Test Rig Design Engineer (Fluid Systems), to work for Rolls-Royce SMR in Derby or Warrington on projects that will contribute to the global reduction of carbon emissions. This is a unique opportunity to be involvedin the design project for a new nuclear power station and the establishment of a world class testing capability. Blueprint Recruitment, working with Rolls-Royce SMR and Morson RPO, is looking for a talented and ambitious engineer to join Rolls-Royce SMRsinnovative and dynamic Test Capability Team.About the Company:Rolls-Royce SMR is a new business, specifically created to design, construct and deliver a new fleet of Small Modular Reactor power plants that will contribute to Net Zero carbon emissions globally. Created through Rolls-Royces passion for engineering excellenceand with world class investment, this is an exciting new business which expects to become a leading player in the future of energy.About the Role:The Test Rig Design Engineer (Fluid Systems) will be responsible for the development of test rigs which provide data for complex fluid system problems. The test rig designs will be developed through a series of reviews, requiring the use of systems engineeringtechniques to develop robust solutions.The Development Engineering organisation itself has responsibilities for proving that the SMR power station design meets its objectives and requirements. This will encompass the area of nuclear engineering as well as the broader scope of delivering a majorinfrastructure project.About You:You will be a Chartered Engineer (or working towards professional accreditation) and have a degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, or a related discipline. You will also have:

  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics and thermodynamic fundamentals as well as process system design experience which has been gained from any process plant industry
  • Familiarity with systems engineering principles is desirable
  • Strong planning and organisational skills and great communication skills
  • A willingness to challenge conventional thinking, with the desire to make a difference
Key Responsibilities of the Role will be:
  • To apply systems and process engineering techniques to develop test rigs from preliminary concept through to detailed design and operation
  • To define and manage test rig requirements, including systems, installations, and controls and instrumentation requirements.
  • To develop engineering assessments such as undertake fluid flow analyses and to size vessels and define heat exchanger requirements.
  • To develop test rigs that are safe by design and to support the production of HAZOPs and FMECAs.
  • To develop design documentation including P&IDs and system descriptions
  • To work in a multidisciplinary engineering team to deliver an optimised test rig.
  • To work with power station design teams, suppliers, and external test houses.
  • To act as a technical representative for assigned test rigs at technical and project reviews.
