Job Description

A vacancy has arisen within the Specialist Medicine Business Unit at the Royal Derby Hospital for a Support Medical Secretaries to work 37.5 hours per week.Do you have the skills and qualities required to work in a fast paced environment supporting the Gastroenterology Medical Secretary Team in delivering an efficient and effective service for the clinicians in respect of their NHS work.You will need to be an enthusiastic and motivated team player with excellent communication & typing skills. Confidentiality, the ability to prioritise your own workload effectively and a willingness to learn are essential.The successful applicants will have a broad range of administrative skills and in particular:

  • RSA/OCR level II or equivalent knowledge and skills
  • Audio typing qualification or experience
  • Standard level of IT literacy
  • NVQ level II Business and Administration or equivalent knowledge and skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of a range of secretarial or administrative procedures
  • An understanding of the 18-week RTT process and a knowledge of the Trust Patient Access Policy and an agreement to adhered to these policies according to National Trust Guidelines as appropriate to role.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A working knowledge of a variety of computer packages including Microsoft Word, Digital Dictation and Lorenzo would be advantageous, although training will be provided.
