Job Description

Job Title: Health and Safety OfficerSalary: £40,000 - £45,000 + Car AllowanceLocation: Derby (Or a commutable distance)My client provide specialisteducation, care andcommunity supportfor the most complex, vulnerable and hard to place young people and adults. There services work with people with autism, mild to severe learning difficulties, mental health and challenging behaviour.They operate in schools, care homes and community support packages predominately across the Midlands.The main requirements for the position of Health and Safety Officer will include:

  • Previous experience of working in a Health & Safety role for a regulated, people-based sector such as Education, Supported Living, Social Care or Health
  • Ideally will have a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent but will look at candidates with a NEBOSH General Certificate depending on there experience.
  • A proven ability to risk assess to enable, not restrict safe activity as well as have experience of reporting RIDDOR and working with the HSE.
  • Ideally the suitable candidate will have experience in being able to adapt to many environments.
The main duties for the position of Health and Safety Officer will include:
  • Manage all aspects of Health and Safety (H&S) across the Group with up to date best practice, authority and independence. Escalating concerns to Heads of Service and assisting the site to follow matters to conclusion.
  • Develop and liaise with H&S points of contact at each location in order to share information and remain updated.
  • Continue to develop shared IT systems to log H&S information and events.
  • Review, develop and monitor practice and implement sound policies and procedures in the areas of Health, PPE for care and education staff, Infection Control, Risk Assessment, Accident Avoidance, Medication and Safety across the Group and any new acquisitions
  • To work as part of a wider Quality Compliance team and to support the DCSC and Adult Care Director in operational risk mapping and the implementation of risk management and reduction programmes for Heads of Service and Registered Managers.
