Job Description

CHILDREN’S HOME MANAGER Hours of Work: 37.5 to 40 Hours a week• To positively promote young people’s inclusion and participation in theirlocal communities and ensure they have full access to communityresources in line with all members of the community• To embed a culture of high aspirations and ambition for the children andyoung people in which young people experience positive outcomes.• Ensure that all aspects of a young person’s support and all aspects of thehome where required have been well risk assessed and that there is clearevidence of this and staff’s understanding of them• To promote positive and supportive relationships with family, whichensures they are regularly communicated with, and area supported tomaintain an active involvement with their child. Where possible, supportthe young people to have time within the family home• Liaise closely with all young people’s education settings so that you areaware of agreed target and learning outcomes that can be supported anddeveloped within the homeStaff• To ensure that staff understand their responsibilities and implementsafeguarding procedures and that you follow all safeguarding legislationand requirements within the sector• Promote the health and safety of employees at work and of peoplesupported through the implementation of corporate Policy for Health,Safety and Welfare at Work in accordance with all relevant statutoryrequirements• To ensure that all staff are provided with an appropriate induction,supervision and appraisal in line with our policies.• To take the lead in setting and reviewing targets and objectives for theresidential deputy manager and senior staff in order to ensure that workis focused and has clear direction.• To ensure the effective management of staff sickness and absence.• Promote a culture of continuous professional development for all, wherelearning and development activity is closely linked to individual, team andorganisational priorities.• To ensure that staff training and development needs are identified andensuring that those needs are met. To lead/assist in training as required.• To ensure that performance reviews are undertaken in a timely mannerand that target setting is of a high standard, relevant and plays a key rolein securing continuous improvement.• To ensure at all times that professional ethics and behaviour aredemonstrated by all staff and that staff are supported and coached inactively engaging with young people.Leadership• To implement, and monitor all appropriate policies as they relate toresidential care• To ensure that all staff are working in accordance with relevant Codes of• To ensure a high standard of practice within your staff teams.• To provide operational management of the staff team and deployappropriate staff resources ensuring that key tasks are fulfilled.• To maintain a presence within the local community, representingat external events, meetings and reviews as required.• To provide appropriate leadership in order to ensure all residential staffare committed to and involved in the achievement of objectives securingthe success of the home• Any other such duties as may be required from time to time by seniora) Evidence of childcare training/experienceb) Childcare qualifications NVQ 4/5 in Management -working with children and young peoplec) Understanding & knowledge of the needs of childrend) Knowledge & understanding of child protection andsafeguarding issuesExperiencea) At least five years’ experience working in aResidential care setting, with no less than two yearsworking with children and in a leadership role.b) Experience of leading within a team, whilst having anawareness of the needs of othersc) Experience of working with children who haveexperienced trauma and have emotional and/orbehavioural difficultiesPersonal Qualitiesa) A good sense of humour, initiative, integrity &honestyb) An enthusiasm & commitment to the children andthe staff teamc) A commitment to work in an anti-discriminatory non-judgemental manner, in line with Equal OpportunitiesPoliciesAbilitiesa) The ability to organise, plan and take responsibilityb) The ability to communicate clearly and effectively,both with colleagues and children, verbally and inwritingc) The ability to set appropriate examples for staff andchildren at all timesd) The ability to motivate, aid and guide staff andchildren in their self-developmente) The ability to listen and respond both responsibly andappropriately, with sensitivityf) The ability to liaise constructively with RI and otherSenior Management
