Job Description

They are committed to innovation and the continual pursuit of improvement,and with a brand holding over 100 years of service they are now developing their technology capabilities, venturing into new markets and building their customer base further.On behalf of this organisation, AMS are looking for an Accounting Controller for a 12 month contract based in Derby.Purpose of the Role is :To join the central Reporting & Controls team within the Civil Aerospace business as Accounting Controller. You will be helping to ensure the quality and timely delivery of financial reporting and governance within Civil with a focus on the Civil Operations business.The financial governance team is accountable for the delivery of robust governance of sector financials throughout the year. This entails liaising with all businesses, geographies and legal entities that make up the Civil Operations to ensure our financialreporting and governance requirements are complete, accurate and on time.This role will allow you to gain excellent insight into the breadth of the Operations and wider Civil business and see how it all works together, to gain direct exposure to the requirements of financial reporting across Civil Aerospace and exposure to seniormanagement.As an Accounting Controller you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the Civil Operations second line of defence controlling activities, including overall responsibility for developing, embedding and maintaining a governance framework covering both the balance sheet and internal controls.
  • Taking the lead and project managing our internal and external audit relationships including PwC and Government Accounting / Ministry of Defence and Tax.
  • Taking the lead, or co-ordinating where appropriate, to resolve discrete financial projects that exist across Civil Aerospace. These projects will vary in size from major change programmes such as FX or the Civil-wide impact of restructuring major supplierterms through to smaller investigations and process improvements.
  • Challenging the business model and stakeholders against the backdrop of requirements under IFRS and our accounting policies.
  • Implementing key accounting policy and standards changes and communicating these simply to the business.
  • In summary, your role will be a contributor to improving overall Civil Aerospace financial reporting
What we require from the candidate:
  • A self-motivated individual with strong analytical skills
  • A track record of consistently delivering quality results to challenging timetables.
  • This role will interact with a number of key Finance stakeholders both within Civil Aerospace and the Group finance team. You will be confident interacting with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Hold a recognised accounting qualification such as CIMA, ACCA, AAT and then ACA
  • Experience of the Big 4 audit firm
  • Finance Manager background Audit & control experience
  • Knowledge of HFM and SAP is useful.
  • Experience of presenting to senior stakeholders would be an advantage.
