Job Description

Were a team of more than 1,000 employeesacross five continents providing solutions to healthcare, industrial and institutional markets across the world.SC Johnson Professionalis a business unit within SC Johnson, a family-owned and led company and leading manufacturer of quality, trusted products since 1886.Perm - Full Time - Denby, DerbyshireDue to the creation of a brand new role in R&D Engineering, we are looking for a detail orientated Packaging Engineer, who is well versed in specifications, to join the team based in Denby, Derbyshire.Responsibilities of our Packaging Engineer:The Associate, Development Engineering Packaging (Packaging Engineer) is responsible for delivering high quality global packaging specifications for all SC Johnson Professional Skincare, Floor & Surface and Iconic Brand products.This role will initially focus on the collation and conversion of all existing global component level specifications over into the SCJ PLM specification format in readiness for uploading into the PLM system.This role will also validate and qualify new and revised packaging technologies and materials as required to support both NPD [New Product Development] and EPD [Existing Product Development] projects.

  • Generate robust packaging component specifications, finished good product specifications, and bills of materials as part of technical validation process
  • Complete and report on performance and compatibility testing in support of packaging component developments and changes
  • Evaluate technical performance and stability of combined package and formula systems, collaborating closely with formulators and processing engineers throughout development
  • Provide technical expertise and problem-solving skills to evaluate and correct package-related issues to maintain production schedules and product quality
  • Apply sound scientific principles to the development of new and revised packaging
  • Technical expertise, and working knowledge of multiple packaging related disciplines: such as materials, dispensing systems, aerosols, flexible films, plastic parts, and related molding techniques, as well as scale-up and manufacturing line requirements
  • Collaborate with multifunctional core teams (RD&E, Design, Marketing, Marketing Research, and Product Supply) to successfully contribute to the development and launch of new products in an accelerated manner
  • Active involvement in Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives, including identifying hazards and near misses, participation in audits and behavioural safety initiatives, and proactive actions to support our world class safety standards.
Previous Experience / Knowledge required of ourPackaging Engineer:
  • Experience and technical competency in primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging design, specification, and qualification (e.g. product/environment compatibility, distribution and environmental testing, manufacturing qualification)
  • Good knowledge of the product development process and experience related to various delivery system technologies (Bottles, Films, pouches, pumps, aerosols, etc)
  • Good technical knowledge in packaging materials
  • Bachelors degree (or higher) in Packaging, Engineering, Material Science, or similar discipline
  • Minimum of 1-year product/packaging development experience
Desirable
  • Experience in packaging design, materials, and manufacturing techniques
  • Working knowledge of Design of experiments
  • Working knowledge of Life cycle Assessments
  • An understanding of the B2B cleaning & hygiene product markets
  • Experience of working with external vendors and consultants
  • Good technical expertise in multiple packaging disciplines; dispensing systems, materials, closures, manufacturing line requirements, plastic moulding techniques, and product/environment compatibility
