Job Description

Drug and Alcohol WorkersLocation: HMP Channings WoodHours: Full time, 35 hours per week (to include some weekend working)Salary: £18,685 to £23,230 per annum depending on experienceContract: PermanentWe’re looking for two enthusiastic people to join our Integrated Substance Misuse Service at HMP Channings Wood as Drug and Alcohol Workers. Drug and Alcohol Workers provide recovery focussed support, information, guidance and structured interventions to adult male prisoners with current or past problematic drug and alcohol use. You’ll join our existing team, helping us to promote a culture of visible contagious recovery’ through the delivery of an integrated service and the provision of assessment, recovery planning and appropriate referral and psychosocial interventions.Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you’ll care coordinate a large caseload, supporting prisoners via a range of low to high intensity interventions. These will include brief interventions, motivational interviewing, contingency management and cognitive behavioural coping skills delivered in a range of settings 1:1, group work, guided self-help and intensive structured programmes. You’ll work closely with partnership agencies in order to ensure continuity of care, key working, and access to appropriate services.What we’re looking forWe’re looking for applicants with experience working in a similar role or environment, including undertaking assessments and working with individuals to develop, implement and review action plans. Experience within substance misuse/recovery would be advantageous. This could include administering drug and alcohol tests, working with people with drug and alcohol problems, delivering motivational interviewing and delivering a range of evidence based psychosocial interventions in 1:1 and group-work settings.A general understanding of substance misuse problems and recovery is essential and you’ll be able to deal with the emotional content of sessions, constructively challenging a range of behaviours. You’ll have a good understanding of group working and group dynamics, and will be able to demonstrate competent group work facilitation skillsYou’ll have excellent communication, organisation and time management skills and will be confident managing your own priorities in order to carry a diverse workload with competing demands.
