Job Description

Job SummaryThe jobholder is responsible for the safe, compliant (legal, regulatory and environmental) aspects) and efficient operation of the Plant, managing a shift team, day operations staff and maintenance staff. The jobholder acts as the Plant SAP (HV) and represents Senior Management during out-of-hours operation.The role is worked on a rotating shift pattern that includes day-work, weekends and public/bank holidays, and provides shift-rota cover, including stand-by cover as required, to ensure continuous 24/7 operation of the facility.Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Delivers and maintains high standards relating to health and safety performance and culture, environmental compliance and site housekeeping.
  • Assists in maintaining and enforcing all Company environmental compliance, safety and health requirements, policies, procedures and rules. Ensures conformance to relevant statutory requirements Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organisations policies and applicable laws.
  • Ensures that the facility and all personnel operate safely at all times and promotes an environment whereby safety is a priority. Follows standard safety procedures, corrects safety and environmental hazards. Reads, understands, and implements lockout/tag-out, safety rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Provides effective administration and application of safe systems of work and Health and Safety policies.
  • Monitors and ensures site compliance in relation to environmental permit and waste management activities.
  • Responsible for using and for monitoring the correct usage of the corporate safety rules, site safety rules and associated safe systems of work, including authorisations, cancellations, etc.
  • Participates on a rolling day-work shift pattern, and acts as SAP and control person for the correct and compliant administration of the site safety rules, including PTW, LOTO, monitoring and all relevant aspects related to a SSOW within a WtE facility.
  • Assists Plant Management in the development, implementation and functional use of all operating and emergency instructions and procedures.
  • Assist Operations and QHSE Managers in recording and maintaining up to date records of all Statutory EA reporting requirements and emissions testing data.
  • Operates / monitors the plant from a Central Control Room, operates plant and equipment as required by the operational demands of the Plant, in order to maintain high operational availability.
  • Monitors performance of overall plant and individual process elements against design parameters and overall efficiency. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, and to increase efficiency of department or staff.
  • Effective use of DCS monitoring and reporting systems to assist in maintaining high levels of plant reliability and performance.
  • Ensures a comprehensive record of all daily activity is recorded in a formal logging system.
  • Liaises with other Company staff as required to provide efficient work scheduling and planning to ensure minimum turnaround times during unscheduled maintenance and plant outages.
  • Ensures that the prescribed level of competent personnel are available on shift at all times, though the consistent management of holiday entitlement, requests for cover and overtime.
  • Carries out boiler, superheater, economiser and FGT on-line cleaning according to agreed frequency schedules and OEM recommendations.
  • Reports and logs operating plant defects to Maintenance team, utilising CMMS correctly and effectively, in accordance with company and site policies.
  • Assists in carrying out routine and breakdown maintenance tasks, where skill levels permit.
  • Assists Maintenance team in co-ordinating all plant PSSR statutory insurance inspections in accordance with company Insurance Inspector.
  • Carries out water quality testing on both pre and post treatment processes. Adjusts boiler feed water chemical dosing rates to ensure water-steam cycle quality remains within set parameters.
  • Ensures plant systems are safely isolated, depressurised, drained and cooled as necessary for maintenance teams to carry out rectification works or maintenance tasks safely.
  • Represents Company management outside normal office hours.
  • Carries out other reasonable tasks and duties as requested by management.
  • Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThe jobholder will be expected to directly manage shift team personnel as designated on the Plant Organisational chart, this includes conducting performance management reviews, annual and half year appraisals and any other line management responsibilities as deemed appropriate. Additionally other personnel, consisting of operators, technicians, contractors and support service staff will be required to be managed on site.Qualifications & Experience
  • HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, ideally having completed a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship / Training.
  • Broad experience gained through shift working in a continuous process industry, preferably in a waste incineration, or power generation environment.
  • Ability to lead an operations shift team to ensure adherence with company procedures and effectively maintain a high plant availability rate.
  • An understanding of current environmental (I.E.D) and health and safety (HASAW) regulations.
  • Recognised Safety training -- IOSH / NEBOSH.
  • SAP (HV) or AP trained.
  • Familiar PTW, SSOW, RAMS & SAP training
  • IT literate and competent to operate DCS & excel reporting tools.
