Job Description

Elite Consult are looking to recruit a Boarding Clerk (shipping) for our client based in Dartford. The role will predominately be home based servicing the river Thames.The business are a lovely employer and a medium sized logistics/shipping group, specialising in ships agency services (among other things).Experience would be great but not essential as all training will be provided, however the successful candidate must have a clean driving licence, be highly self-motivated able to work independently and as part of a close-knit team. Excellent communicationskills, attention to detail and good computer skills are essential. After initial training, you will board vessels in port, attending to the captains and crew requirements and preparing HMRC and ship cargo documentation.You will work as part of a professional team on a duty roster this is not an average 9 to 5 office-based roles, you will be required to board ships during out-of-office hours/weekend and bank holiday periods.Key Responsibilities:

  • Booking vessels in and out of port with all relevant stakeholders
  • Capturing accurate costs incurred during port calls
  • Visiting vessels and handling any local requirements
  • Maintaining good relations with customers and stakeholders
  • Prepare, collect and distribute relevant shipping documentation and information.
  • Act as first point of contact to solve issues or investigate queries relating to Shipping services.
  • Liaise and keep internal/external parties updated with important information relevant to vessel operations.
  • Arrange vessels services for handling husbandry matters.
  • Prepare quotations, process invoices and finalise vessels disbursement accounts.
  • Understand port systems, rivers, tides and berth operations and having confident knowledge timely providing accurate information and costings to ship owners and charterers for them to be able to negotiate and make decisions for successful ship fixing.
  • Arranging legal requirements with HM Customs and Immigration formalities for the vessel, crew and cargo clearance.
  • Develop local knowledge and be able to arrange services for vessels whilst in port i.e. ships spares, doctors, dentist, stores, transport for crew arrivals and repatriation, repairs, fresh water etc.
  • Keep records and time logs required of vessels port stay to prepare documentation and to be able to revert back on any later queries, issues and surcharges that arise.
  • Collect and process vessels invoices ensuring all charges are correct raising any queries prior to signing of for payment.
