Job Description

Location: Daresbury, Warrington, UKEmployment Type: Regular Full-TimeDuration: UnlimitedSalary: Highly competitive (negotiable depending on experience)Summary of role:Responsibility for providing a pivotal role in development, synthesis and characterisation of nanomaterials for optoelectronics applications.Reporting to: Head of R&DKey responsibilities:

  • Design, synthesis and characterisation of nanomaterials
    • - Plan development work and experimental strategies for a different type of nanomaterials- Synthesise a different kind of semiconductor nanomaterials- Routine characterisation of nanomaterials using different techniques- Analyse data and suggest solutions to improve target properties
  • Surface modification of nanomaterials to make them compatible with the required media/matrix
  • Writing progress technical reports, invention disclosure clearly, accurately and delivered on time and patents if required
  • Actively contributing ideas to the team and company
    • Requirements:
  • PhD in chemistry, material science or equivalent degree covering nanomaterials, colloidal chemistry, organometallic and/or inorganic synthesis.
  • Excellent synthetic chemistry skills. Experience with inert atmosphere techniques and nanoparticle synthesis and characterisation.
  • Experience with surface modification of nanoparticles
  • Require to be creative and innovative to generate and implement ideas
  • Provide technical lead in the development of semiconductor nanoparticles
  • Critical thinking/problem solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good presentation skills
  • Well organised and ability to manage and juggle many different priorities
  • Ability to plan ahead and prioritise and address forthcoming issues
  • Good numeric skills
  • IT skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • KPI’s:
  • Achieving project milestones
  • Reporting results to Head of R&D in a timely manner
  • All invention disclosures/ patents filed in a timely manner
  • All samples are sent to other teams and customers in a timely manner
  • Perform proper characterisation on samples
  • Identify needed equipment and carry out procurement if necessary
