Quality Control Scientist (Biosurfactant) - DaresburySalary – Competitive Salary + Excellent Holidays + Flexible Working Hours + Share Options + PensionThe ClientOur client is facilitating the transition of the $36 billion surfactant market from harmful, oilbased chemicals to biobased alternatives by working with the current market leaders to provide a collaborative production platform.The company is currently completing the build of its pilot facility launching tonne scale production of sophorolipids and work with multiple industrial partners to take the product to market. In line with this, they are fundraising to build their first ktonne scale commercial sophorolipid plant.This highly successful business is expanding its focus beyond sophorolipids and developing processes to produce additional biosurfactants in collaboration with external market facing partners.Our client believe collaboration between companies, disciplines and individuals are the best ways to develop the biosurfactant industry and the company, and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to broaden their skill set by working with field leaders around the world, within a dynamic and friendly working environment. The company offer a competitive pay package and benefits to attract incredible individuals to join the family.The Role The successful candidate will be responsible for running and developing the downstream quality control for biosurfactants produced in the companys pilot plant and Manchester base fermentations at laboratory scale and pilot plant (450 litres) and performing downstream processing and quality control analytics as well as operating downstream processing techniques to enhance the performance of the biosurfactant products. This will include purification methods, as well as techniques for chemical analysis. The role will involve working with the process development and production teams and supply chain function for raw material supply to ensure that the whole process provides products with suitable properties for a range of applications and industries. This position will be based in Daresbury (in the pilot plant). Previous Knowledge and Experience Essential: Experience in development creations of quality control systems, with the view to gain iso-certifications in 2021.Experience operating several advanced analytical techniques, ideally including HPLC, MS, GC, FTIR. Experience in QC, analytical techniques, such as titrations, and solvent extractions.Experience of downstream separation processes at laboratory scale and ideally at pilot or industrial scale.Capability and desire to quickly develop processes iteratively and a willingness to test unfinished solutions.Proactive in ensuring work is completed accurately and efficiently.UK driving licence.Desirable: Previous experience in method development and validation.Specific knowledge of analytical techniques applied to biosurfactants.Experience of running fermentations.Knowledge of surfactant behaviour and formulation, in particular phase behaviour.Understanding of lipid/surfactant quantification and purification techniques.Experience of plant scale equipment and large scale chemical manufacturing.Understanding of global chemical regulations and certifications requirements.Important Information: We endeavour to process your personal data in a fair and transparent manner.
