Job Description

Job Title: Mammalian Protein Expression and Purification ScientistReports to: CEO Est. start date: 1 October 2020Location of work: Sci-Tech Daresbury, CheshireSalary: £26K-35K depending on experience, qualifications and track recordReason for role: 9-month project on the scaled-up production of recombinant proteins in mammalian platform Qualifications/Prerequisites:

  • PhD degree in one of the following: cell and/or molecular biology, biochemistry, protein purification or similar
  • Significant proven experience in molecular biology, protein expression, analysis, purification and assay development
  • Experience in mammalian tissue culture
  • Ability to work independently, drive a project to completion as evidenced from a publication record
  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimise protein purification methods: Affinity, Ion Exchange, Size Exclusion, Hydrophobic Interaction and Multimodal.
  • High level of precision, attention to detail, efficiency and motivation.
  • Proven ability to interpret scientific data, analyse and research complex issues and write research reports
    • Summary of role:Daresbury Proteins is a biotech start-up based in Warrington, Cheshire, specialising in mammalian recombinant protein production and cell line development. We make exceptional quality proteins.We are seeking an experienced, exceptional, enthusiastic and motivated Scientist with a passion for novel scientific approaches and technological advances. The successful applicant will work in an ambitious start-up micro-company under the supervision of CEO and as part of exciting Sci-Tech Daresbury community.The project focuses on a scaled-up production of recombinant proteins produced in mammalian cells for high-end applications. The successful candidate is expected to design, optimise and perform protein purification by various liquid chromatography methods as well as generate Quality Control data in terms of Western blotting, ELISA and enzyme activity assays. The candidate is also expected to be involved in other aspects of recombinant protein production including (but not limited to) molecular biology, cloning and cell culture.The successful candidate is expected to start immediately.Key responsibilities:
  • Design, troubleshoot and perform protein purification and protein analysis
  • Adapt existing and develop new protocols and techniques
  • Fully manage own research and administrative activities and coordinate them with other members of the team
  • Regularly communicate with the CEO and other members of the team as required
  • To be responsible to the daily housekeeping of the lab and performing any other duties as may be required to ensure the efficient running of the lab and internal projects
  • Maintain lab books and produce regular accounts to ensure the work progress
  • To meet tight deadlines while working under the Covid-19 constrains including shifts
