Job Description

Acorn Recruitment is supporting Torfaen Leisure Trust in the recruitment of additional Trustees to join its Board.Torfaen Leisure Trust (TLT) is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status and is now entering its eighth year of trading. It has responsibility for the delivery of leisure and wellbeing services across the Borough of Torfaen, and manages five sitesthat include: Pontypool Ski Slope, Bowden Active Living Centre, Pontypool Active Living Centre, Cwmbran Stadium and Fairwater Leisure Centre.The Trust is governed by a voluntary and diverse Board of Trustees, which manages the strategic leadership of the Trust. The Trust is now looking for additional Trustees with the following expertise:* Commercial Leadership* Leadership Exp from the third and/or public sector* Previous Trust or Board ExperienceTime Commitment: 4 Board Meetings, an AGM, additional sub-committee meetings and occasional eventsLocation: Cwmbran, with occasional meetings held virtuallyRemuneration: Voluntary, however reasonable expenses will be reimbursedJob purpose:Trustees act together as a group, collectively known as the Management Board. The Management Board is the governing body of the Trust, and is ultimately responsible for everything the organisation does. As a member of the Management Board, each Trustee is responsiblefor ensuring that the Trust is being well managed and operating within agreed policies, the law and its budget. The role of Trustee provides governance to the Trust, represents it to the community and accepts the legal authority for its operations. Trusteesensure that the Trust operates sustainably and support the objectives of the Trust as set out in its governing document.Key responsibilities:* Attend Board Meetings in person, coming prepared to provide input on specific agenda items* Contribute actively to the Management Boards role in giving firm strategic direction to the Trust setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets* Ensure that the Trust complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations* Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the Trust, and ensure the financial stability of the Trust* Participate in discussions as appropriate and provide guidance on new initiatives * Provide guidance to the Board on issues in which the member has special expertisePerson specification:* Demonstrable leadership experience* An understanding of financial management and business strategy* Motivated to help transform wellbeing within the local community* Strong independent judgement, the ability to think creatively and work effectively as a member of a team* Good communication and interpersonal skills* Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to meeting preparation and contributing to discussions* An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of TrusteesPlease be aware that this is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities and requirements.
