Job Description

To develop and plan internal communications and engagement and support campaigns to protect the reputation of Gwent Police and build public confidence in our service.

  • To deliver and promote internal communications and engagement, and internal and external campaigns with the aim of improving public confidence and delivering the Police and Crime Commissioner priorities
  • Identify opportunities to share the Gwent Police story with the media regionally and locally, and through digital and internal channels.
  • To work with the Head of Corporate Communications to develop an internal communications strategy for Gwent Police.
  • Identify and develop internal communications channels and a means of evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to communicating internally with staff across the force.
  • Develop and deliver internal communications and engagement plans to build understanding of force priorities.
  • To support, brief and advise senior management on major operational, corporate and policy issues relating to communication issues.
  • To develop creative content for websites, Force intranet, broadcast etc
  • To work with staff across the department to research, develop and activate proactive campaigns and PR initiatives that increase confidence and promote the objectives of Gwent Police.
GENERAL TASKS
  1. Finance
  • To be cost effective in all contracts and purchasing undertaken in the department.
  • Proactively look to take cost out of department / business through efficiency and automation.
  1. Quality and Compliance
  • Compliance with the forces policies and procedures
  • Ensure the delivery of effective customer and support service in line with any agreed service standards.
  • Undertake and participate in Bench Marking activities and survey requests
  • Must display the qualities to be able to work in an organisation with minority groups and provide a service to minority groups in communities. They must show that they are able to contribute to an open, fair working environment where inappropriate behaviouris not permitted. They must display no evidence of the likelihood to contribute in any way to workplace bullying or sexist or racist behaviour.
  • Maintain records in a confidential manner, ensuring all information handled is done so sensitively and in line with General Data Protection Regulations
  1. Administrative / Miscellaneous
  • General administration
  • Undertaking of any activities commensurate with grade and skill set of the position
  • Attendance of required training
  • Participating in the performance review process including the requirement for CPD
  • Attending meetings and events inside and outside the force area

  • Comply with Health & Safety Policies and procedures.
  • Always keep safety in mind and act in a safe manner.
  • To take reasonable care of own and others safety; to co-operate with managers / supervisors in complying with statutory health and safety duties; to report incidents, accidents, faults and near misses
  • Use systems that have been developed to promote health and safety at GWP

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Educated to degree level in a related subject and/or comparable relevant experience. Eg NCTJ
  • Must be able to evidence previous experience of working in a communications role in journalism, marketing, public relations or community engagement environment.
  • Must have previous experience of handling media and communications events and campaigns.
  • Experience and understanding of evaluating the impact of media and engagement activities.
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience of developing innovative methods of engagement and promotion to partners, stakeholders and the wider community.
  • Must be able to evidence competent knowledge and use of Microsoft Office packages.
  • Must demonstrate a knowledge of media law
  • Level 1 welsh (training will be given). Level 2 and higher is desirable.
