Technical & Quality Manager, (fixed-term contract)Search are currently working with a leading manufacturing business. My client has a fantastic opportunity for a Technical & Quality Manager to join their growing Technical team. This role reports into the Senior Regulatory & Technical Manager.Overview The role of the Quality & Technical Manager is to assist the business to: monitor and advise on food technical, safety and quality aspects to ensure the company operates to the highest standards, enabling our products to meet the relevant specifications, legislationand customer requirements. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to help ensure that all products supplied to our distributors are legal, safe and of acceptable quality at both batch release, delivery to the customer and over the duration of shelf-life.Duties & Responsibilities:* Acquire an in-depth understanding of technical, safety and quality aspects associated to the key ingredients and raw materials used in our products. Stay abreast of the relevant developments related to all product classifications (Food, Food Supplements,Cosmetics and Medical Device) with a special focus in food supplements and their different dosage forms (capsules, liquids, powder, tablets, gummies.* Lead on the assessment of the quality and technical aspects of NPD (New Product Development) and EPD (Existing Product Development): advice on the scientific assessment and technical feasibility of the products including identification of potential manufacturingissues, technical and sensory evaluation of samples and packaging materials, product testing / shelf-life assessment, product specification approval, etc.* Provide internal advice and assist contract manufacturers in foreseeing and troubleshooting technical or quality issues and complaint investigation, including root cause analysis and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions) assessment.* Goods-in quality checks on finished products, report of any potential issues identified to our contract manufacturers. Positive release of goods, management of Certificates of Analysis and assessment of CoAs vs. product specifications.* Assist with supplier monitoring and supplier assessment (including the implementation of Technical Agreements and Self-Assessment Questionnaires for our contract manufacturers).* Provide customer-friendly answers to technical and quality enquiries.* Ensure retailer requirements on technical information about products and packaging are met. Provide technical information for every batch to meet export requirements post-Brexit.* To help drive continuous improvement within the business and further establish a culture of product quality, safety and legality (e.g. assistance with the implementation of HACCP and internal procedures).* This role and associated responsibilities need to be and remain flexible in line with business needs. This role is to be developed over time to meet the needs of a fast-growing SME.The ideal candidate:* Degree in food technology, food chemistry, food science or a related discipline. Ideally with an understanding of food development processes in the area of food supplements/ingredients.* 4+ years of work experience in the food industry, gained through at least 2 years in quality and technical aspects, ideally in the field of food supplements or fortified foods (experience in cosmetics would be beneficial too).* Solid understanding of food safety, HACCP and quality management systems.* Strong problem-solving, analytical and project management skills, with the capability of working independently and managing own workload* Creative mind that can work based on risk assessment and can prioritise a large and diverse workload.* Team player, positive and enthusiastic.
