Through its global private network, Collins is the industry leader-depended on by airlines around the world to deliver flexible, highly-reliable, cost-effective solutions, to evolve and adapt technology that optimizes and expands customer capabilitiesWe are seeking a Technical Engineer for our Ground Station Deployment Group based in Crawley, West Sussex, UK. The successful candidate will work alongside the EMEA engineering and implementation team and must possess excellent interpersonal skills. This role will require regular travel within EMEA (25 to 50%) to install our ground station hardware, comprising of network routers, VHF Radios and computers, There will be a requirement to perform site surveys to ensure VHF antenna are correctly located.The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot technical issues, provide timely feedback and support the roll out of new applications, among other duties.The role requires you to work directly with airport companies, airline customers, airport handling agent companies and our third party partners in various countries throughout the EMEA region as well as internal networks groups within Collins Aerospace.

  • The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot technical issues, provide timely feedback and support the role out of new applications
  • Acting as a technical liaison between the ground station engineering team, the EMEA sales team, and customers
  • Collaboration with other teams is an integral step that must be taken to be successful in this role
  • Creating custom solutions and technical designs to solve and meet customer needs based on their local infrastructure and any technical constraints the customer location presents
  • Maintain and enhance good customer relationships whilst striving to go beyond customer expectation
  • Provide technical training on implemented products
  • Have some knowledge of VHF, VDL and ATN Air/Ground communication systems
  • Ensuring that day to day business is conducted within the guidelines of established contracts, company policies and procedures
  • Identifying and troubleshooting technical issues with hardware and software
  • Diagnosing and repairing faults
  • Resolving network related issues
  • Installation and configuring hardware and software
  • Replacing and repairing the necessary hardware
  • Liaising with third party support team to get to identify root cause of problems
  • Provide remote support to onsite third party support teams
  • Testing and evaluating hardware components
  • Provide accurate written procedural documentation to third parties and airport clients
  • Conform to ISO guidelines for installation and testing
  • Able to work alone and achieve targets
    • As the role is customer focused and will require face-to-face contact with both existing and potential customers, first impressions are vitally important. The successful candidate will be required to maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and integrity at all times. The role requires a proactive attitude when dealing with customer issues, whether in the office or on the road.The ideal candidate will also have the responsibility for managing customer expectations, relaying to customers what can and cannot be achieved, in an effective and positive way. The role requires the ability and flexibility to travel internationally, sometimes on short notice, to provide customer support.
  • Experience within the aviation sector is preferable but not a hard requirement
  • Excellent customer oriented attitude with strong interpersonal skills
  • Confident with providing attention to detail and sound problem solving skills
  • Proactive and self-motivated, able to show initiative
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to work under pressure
  • Strong organisational, communication (written and verbal) and administrative skills
  • Target / deadline focused, with the ability to prioritise and manage a high degree of multitasking
  • Knowledge of Radio spectrum analysis and working with modulation would be an advantage, but not essential
  • Knowledge of ITIL and the theory of ITIL are advantageous.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Project)
  • Foreign language is desirable, however not essential
