Job Description

his role is initially a 3-month contract, but this could extend!Job Tittle: Senior Planning Officer (HYBRID)Location: CrawleyHours: Monday to Friday - 37 hours per weekSalary: £50 per hourStart: January 2024MUST HOLD FULL UK DRIVING LICENSE!HRGO Recruitment are looking for a Senior Planning Officer for a 3 month contract based in Crawley. You will be processing planning application from consultation through to determination, including writing delegated and committee reports. The role will involveeffectively contribute to the day to day running of the Development Management team dealing with customer planning enquiries, processing all types of planning application and undertaking all work in connection to application casework received post decision.Responsibilities

  • To effectively manage a planning caseload comprising the processing of planning applications of all types (dependant on experience), including case validation, discussion and negotiation with customers, undertaking site visits, consultation and discussionwith interested parties, preparing reports, making recommendations and discharging of conditions
  • Provide excellent service to customers in writing, in person or over the telephone matters relating to Development Management such as permitted development, prior approvals, pre-application advice and the submission or otherwise of planning applications.
  • Attend Planning Committee when requested presenting reports and recommendations as directed.
  • Prepare written representations on proofs of evidence for appeals and, if required, to attend and give evidence at hearings and public inquiries as the Councils expert.
  • Assist in the preparation of briefs for the development of sites.
  • To contribute to the development and review of planning policies and related policy documents.
  • To deal with enforcement issues working with other staff as appropriate
  • To work in an open and communicative way with all team members (more junior staff and managers) to provide support and feedback in all aspects of the day-to-day work.
  • Effectively communicate and share learning and information from training courses, meetings or knowledge acquired during day-to-day work with the team and other Council staff as required.
  • To ensure that all duties are carried out in compliance with statutory provisions and with the Councils policies for health and safety.
  • To undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required by the Group Manager or Head of Service.
Skills and experience required:
  • Ability to undertake the majority of the posts duties with minimal supervision, although a line manager will be available.
  • Depending on level, an RTPI recognised qualification or RTPI Chartered membership will be
  • expected.
  • Evidence of qualification and RTPI membership
