Job Description

Background and roleKent Surrey Sussex AHSN (KSS AHSN) is one of 15 AHSNs set up by NHS England in 2013 and relicensed from April 2018 to operate as the key innovation arm of the NHS. Further information can be found at the KSS AHSN About us web page.We are currently seeking to appoint a Financial Controller - a qualified and skilled accountant who has a proven track-record of automating accounting processes and of pro-actively managing the finances of multiple projects. This role will provide an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working closely with both internal and external stakeholders and who is adept to managing and developing a finance function, within a fast-paced working environment.Reporting to the (joint) Finance and Corporate Services Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Finance function, including management and performance reporting and financial accounting. They will support the strategic work of each Professional Group at KSS AHSN to ensure that the overall objectives and delivery plans of the organisation are achieved. The role holder will lead on strengthening the efficient and effective delivery of KSS AHSN’s Finance function by actively engaging within their team and with other stakeholders. Specifically, a key performance objective of the successful candidate will be to lead on the development, implementation and regular review of the Finance functions strategy and systems, with the aim of delivering a truly digitalised service.The successful applicant will be self-reliant, enthusiastic, flexible and have well developed communication skills, with a flair for adapting tone and message for different audiences.KSS AHSN is currently remote working, due to government guidelines but the role will ultimately be based in the Gatwick/Crawley area.Key responsibilities

  • Digitalisation of current accounting processes and other digital initiatives;
  • Overseeing the production of Monthly Management Accounts and providing appropriate commentary;
  • Financial analysis and Cash Flow management;
  • Quarterly reporting to our NHS funders;
  • Managing annual external audit process;
  • Liaising with internal stakeholders to assist in preparing and managing their budgets, including the consolidation of all budgets;
  • Line management of two members of the Finance team;
  • Review of payroll and monthly submissions to HMRC of PAYE/NIC, including liaison with outsourced provider;
  • Management of Treasury function, including liaison with the Company’s bankers;
  • Preparation of quarterly VAT returns; and
  • Managing the outsourced accounting for various third parties / external stakeholders.
    • Required skills & expertise
  • A recognised accountancy qualification e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA;
  • Proven experience of automating manual procedures and identifying further efficiencies within a Finance Department;
  • Proven successful track record of working as a Finance Manager in a small to medium sized organisation;
  • Good understanding of general business and pressures that others in the company may be facing; and
  • Demonstrable understanding of the range of functions covered by the job description
