Job Description

Further InformationNorthumberland Fire and Rescue Service are seeking Emergency Resilience Fire Crew Members who are able to provide emergency response support in the event of exceptional demands on our service or to cover for periods of industrial action by our workforce. Emergency Resilience Fire Crew Members will be required to staff fire appliances and attend emergency incidents. Training will be provided to enable them to deal with a limited range of incident types. Candidates are required to be of a good level of physicalfitness which will be assessed during the recruitment process via a Chester Walk Test, within which candidates are required to complete the 12-minute test. Individuals will be required to undertake an initial 2-week basic training course at our HQ site in Cramlington. Upon successful completion of the 2 weeks training, they will be employed on a Casual Worker Agreement and the service will not be obligated to provide individuals with any hours of work. Casual Work Agreement Emergency Resilience Fire Crew Members will receive £13.41 per hour, for hours between 06:00hrs-20:00hrs Monday to Friday and £20.12 per hour for weekends and hours between 20:00hrs and 06:00hrs on Weekdays. Retention Fee: A £250 retention payment will be made for every 4-week period of availability you provide after completing initial training. Please be aware that to receive the retention payment you must attend the relevant ongoing training as required. You will be contracted to work only when required by the Organisation. There will be no guarantee of future work - this is called a Casual Worker Agreement. Industrial action could take place at any time during the day or night therefore applicants need tobe prepared to work both day shifts and night shifts however there will be notice given prior to any planned requirement to work. Eligibility To be eligible to apply for the role of Emergency Resilience Fire Operative candidates must: - Be 18 years of age or over at the commencement of their training. - Be eligible to work in the United Kingdom. - Be available to attend the relevant assessment dates, medical dates and complete all days of the Initial Training Course in full (see timeline below). - Have a good standard of physical fitness and be able to pass the Chester Walk Test. - Be able to follow instructions and work as part of a team. Recruitment Process There will be three stages to the recruitment process for Emergency Fire Operative roles:Stage 1) - Eligibility Screening Applications will be screened to assess your eligibility and suitability for the role. Please note that if you do not meet all of the eligibility criteria we will be unable to progress your application further. Please also note that communications relatingto your application will be via email. You MUST be available to attend; - An Assessment Day which includes a practical assessment and interview. - Medical assessment - 2 week Initial Training Course Individuals who are unable to commit to attending all of the above will not be considered further. Shortlisted candidates will be allocated a place on an Assessment Day. Stage 2) Assessment Day - Practical Assessment, Fitness Test & Interview - (Week Commencing the 2nd of January 2023) Location: Northumberland Service Area (location details available if invited to undertake the tests). Any individual who feels they require any reasonable adjustments in order to fully participate in any of the assessments will have the opportunity to supply details on receipt of their invitation email. This will enable the Service to consider if reasonableadjustments can be made to support them. The Assessment Day will consist of the following: - Registration - Verification of eligibility to work in the UK - Chester Walk Test - Interview Practical assessment including; - Equipment carry - Ladder climb - Ladder lift - Casualty evacuation - Equipment assembly Stage 3) Medical Assessment - (Week Commencing the 2nd of January 2023) Individuals who have successfully completed all stages will be invited to attend a medical which will include a toxicology test. If successful at the assessment stage and subsequent medical and standard DBS checks, candidates will be invited to attend the relevantinitial training course Training Course - (Weeks Commencing 16th and 23rd of January 2023) A two-week training course will be delivered to provide fundamental firefighting and rescue skills and knowledge. This will be held at our HQ site in Cramlington Closing date for applications will be midnight on 12th January 2023
