Job Description

We are looking to recruit an experienced WarehouseOperations Manager to join our clients Coventry operation which consists of 148,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space over multiple units and contains key departments such as theNational Distribution Centre and the online fulfilment warehouse.The successful candidate will bring a wealth of knowledge into this operation, having significant experience in warehousing, either in a supervisory or managerial role. This is not a desk job, and requires genuine hands-on ability, the requirement to deputisefor both senior managers and subordinates, and a desire for continuous improvement in all areas.The fulfilment operation is growing fast. Our Clients exciting growth rate has led them to acquire an additional 190,000 sq. ft. building in Coventry which they are fitting out ready for occupation in summer 2022.This role requires the candidate to be based between the two sites during a run-up period from the end of March 2022 until the operation becomes live in the summer.Supported by a team of 5 Deputy Operations Managers (who run each shift), the operational team numbers around 100, over three shifts however there is a desire to change this to 2 shifts when they move. Inbound and outbound traffic amounts to around 300 vehiclesper week, and around 1200 to 1400 orders are dispatched every day.Principal functions in the operation are:

  • Goods In
  • Replenishment
  • Picking
  • Packing / Dispatch
Principal responsibilities:
  • Management of the operational warehouse and logistics functions
  • Ensure efficiencies are delivered and customer satisfaction increased
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation (BRC) and company Health and Safety requirements
  • Ensure daily targets are met for goods in, replenishment and picking
  • Recruit, develop and motivate staff
  • Give clear strategic and tactical leadership to managers, supervisors and team members, setting and developing KPIs
  • Ensure the highest standards of health and safety are adhered to
  • Warehouse Management System - develop and improve
  • Ensure safety and accuracy of all stock in warehouse
  • Responsible for the fabric of the building - ensuring appropriate maintenance programs are introduced and managed along with all sub-contractors, either on a project or long-term relationship basis
  • Deal with staff disciplinary and grievance matters when necessary
Key reports:
  • Deputy Operations Managers, Warehouse supervisors
Personal attributes:
  • Experienced in warehouse/operational management or supervisory role essential
  • A high level of self-discipline and self-motivation required
  • Desire to be a hands-on leader
  • Excellent interpersonal and motivational skills
  • Ability to take ownership of and solve problems
  • FLT qualifications are an advantage
  • Hours of work - principally 09:00 - 18:00 Monday - Friday, although some flexibility is expected given the key nature of this role
