Job Title: Senior Powertrain System Modelling EngineerJob Type: PermanentLocation: Coventry, West MidlandsSalary: £40,000 to £50,000Industry: Automotive/PowertrainPremier Engineering has engaged with the worlds largest independent company for the development, simulation and testing of powertrain systems (hybrid, combustion engine, transmission, electric drive, batteries, fuel cell and control technology) for passengercars, commercial vehicles, construction, large engines and their integration into the vehicle.You will join the CAE & Data Science Team and co-operate closely with our established engineering team, whilst taking responsibility within our internal and customer projects. Your role will combine powertrain and vehicle development simulation, data analysisactivities with simulation and virtual system, spanning the full range of current and future powertrain concepts including HEV, PHEV, BEV and FCEV.This role may be able to bebased at either of ourBasildon or Coventry locations.Our senior engineers are typically exposed to multiple different projects during their career working with us. The role is therefore particularly suited to people who will enjoy the opportunity to gain experience in new areas and who can rapidly self-start,combining creative and analytical problem-solving skills.YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES: Support system analysis projects, across internal and customer opportunities covering a range of current and future powertrain concepts Perform data processing and analysis, with reporting to internal and customer teams and management Carry out analysis using 1-D and 3-D modelling techniques as applicable Design innovative and efficient plant and controller models, algorithms for powertrain system and energy analysis on future technologies and electrified powertrains Present results and recommendation of analysis to stakeholders Support internal presentations and participate in trainings and knowledge exchange Technically coordinate and supervise the team Contribute to the strategic decision for the development of the team Train and empower junior team membersYOUR PROFILE:Essential: Minimum of 2:1 Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant engineering area (Mechanical, Automotive, etc) Professional experience in modelling/simulation for powertrains Excellent teamwork skills A knowledge and understanding of Dynamics, Control and estimation theory Experience in dynamic modelling of multi-physics systems (including sub system components and system environment) in MATLAB and Simulink Experience of 1D Powertrain Modelling, model correlation & validation against test data Understanding of automotive electrification performance and fundamentals across a range of future and emerging powertrain technologies Understanding of Gasoline/Diesel internal combustion engine performance and fundamentals, including modern Exhaust Aftertreatment Systems, and future industry trends Excellent analytical skills with ability to summarise and make clear technical recommendations across multifunctional disciplines with supporting data Self-starter with the ability work with high level instruction, minimal detail breakdown and to be able to seek out relevant information, data and support from other engineering groups Ability to communicate technical information effectively, both written and verbal, with the business and customer team members, as well employees in other customers, suppliers, and the global team Flexibility to work across multiple projects/locations Open minded, flexible can do attitudePreferable: Appreciation of powertrain simulation techniques (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, Python, AVL CRUISE M, GT-power) across virtual development, verification, and validation techniques 3D Modelling Techniques for EV Battery Thermal Analysis (e.g. AVL FIRE, ANSYS FLUENT,STAR-CCM+) Data Analytics Skills for engine, machine, vehicle fleet data Controls and calibration development using software or hardware in the loop Calibration / diagnostics tools experience (e.g., VECTOR CANape, CANalyzer) Desire to cultivate a mindset of continuous improvement and take responsibility for personal growthIf an offer of employment is made, applicants are required to undergo a DBS check.
