Job Description

Shell Energy has partnered exclusively with Robert Walters to find an experienced Senior Data Engineer in Coventry.About Shell EnergyAt Shell Energy, we provide more and cleaner energy solutions across a global portfolio ofgas,powerandenvironmental productsto meet current and future energy needs of our customers: energy producers, asset owners, traders, wholesalers and large commercial and industrial energy users.As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be required to:

  • Understand how data can be collected, analyzed and utilized; maintaining flexibility in the face of big data developments while understanding challenges and time sensitivity of the data in the domain.
  • Approach data challenges with a clear understanding of what is important; you know when to use the right tools for the right job.
  • Have experience of implementing CDC pipelines and refactoring legacy systems to move from batch processing to real time.
  • Have a solid understanding of temporality within data as it is captured, streamed, and landed; as well as best practices for applying controls, security, monitoring and reconciliation of data between systems.
  • Have worked with and implemented CI/CD tools or other source control solutions within a DevOps/DataOps workflow.
  • Have experience of building robust data pipelines using a variety of techniques and languages such as sqoop, python, spark, java or scala
  • Have strong SQL skills across a broad range to databases, including SQL Server, postgres, Oracle.
  • Have strong Data Warehousing knowledge and understanding of the challenges of blending data from differing sources to construct relational and dimensional data models.
  • Have experience or exposure to AWS cloud services and tools including S3, Glue, orchestration tools and the data stack including third party solutions such as Snowflake, Streamsets and Attunity.
