Job Description

A Principal Engineer (Vehicle Systems) is urgently required for a leading defence organisation based in Coventry. This 12-month fixed term contract will report directly to the Chief Engineer and will be supporting in the delivery of the MoD’s fleet of Protected Mobility Vehicles, including vehicles such as the Mastiff, Wolfhound, Ridgeback, Foxhound and Husky.The Principal Engineer will be responsible for providing System of System Engineering capabilities and leadership in the area of Protected Mobility Programmes. The role will place significant demands on your engineering knowledge & experience and will require liaison and co-operation with the vehicle systems engineering subject matter experts within our clients organisation.The Principal Engineer will be accountable for the following:

  • Analysis of system and sub-system level requirements.
  • Writing LRU and component specifications.
  • Support the development of supplier Statement of Works (SOWs).
  • Configuration Management of vehicle system and sub-systems data.
  • Dealing with subcontractors during subsystem design and development.
  • Prepare material for internal and external design reviews.
  • Carry out viability assessments of competing technologies and systems.
  • Prepare cost, programme and risk estimates for proposed engineering support solutions.
    • This is an exciting time to be joining an organisation that’s been awarded the Engineering Authority role for the MoD platforms via its Vehicle Systems and Services part of the business. We are seeking candidates that have the following experience:
  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience leading activities on engineering development programmes (for large defence systems is seen as an advantage).
  • Proven requirements development expertise and experience using DOORS.
  • Proven system design and analysis expertise and experience using a SysML tool.
  • Proven experience in working with sub-contractors through the integration, test and acceptance phases.
  • Proven experience of full systems engineering lifecycle.
  • Hold or be capable of holding security clearance up to the level of SECRET.
