Job Description

The RoleThis is a ground breaking, leading merchandising role in the Category team, responsible for translating the category strategy, deliver agreed stock parameters to all SGBD channels and overseeing its execution to deliver profitable growth for their ranges and that of their teams. You will be accountable for the planning and execution of sourcing, selection, and trading strategy for a given category / range, to deliver a customer focused proposition, to agreed target KPIs (including GMROI, GMROS, Margin, Availability, Digital metrics, and Customer satisfaction), in line with the category strategy. Youll also be responsible for product proposition and planned executions across all channels. To achieve optimum cost through supplier management and identification of the most cost effective sourcing routes. Were looking for someone innovative and committed who wants to act as a coach and leader by managing, motivating and developing the whole Category team and work closely with buying counterparts to ensure that the category strategy is achieved.What youll be doing as a Merchandiser:

  • Create and implement a customer driven strategic vision for their ranges in line with the category strategy agreed with the senior stakeholders with clearly defined and measurable initiatives.
  • Ensure agreed levels of good, better and best products are bought in line with the department strategy.
  • Using knowledge of markets and suppliers, inform the category budget and create and implement trading plans to achieve category strategy
  • Manage pricing across category to achieve a competitive position without compromising profitability
  • To liaise with global suppliers and sourcing offices to identify the most cost effective sourcing routes, and work closely with overseas teams
  • Have a clear strategic plan around our most profitable suppliers for growth and those to decline
  • Work with Buyers to negotiate improved annual terms with full supply base to maximise group synergies.
  • Liaise with Supply Chain colleagues with joint accountability for planning and prioritisation of stock flow into the business throughout the product life cycle using all available merchandising and logistics tools to meet availability targets and requirements

  • Proven track record & recent comparable experience in a merchandising role including Omni-channel experience
  • Excellent technical knowledge of merchandising systems
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of replenishment systems
  • Proven track record of delivering results to target as an individual and within a team
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast moving dynamic trade environment
  • Confidence to influence and engage at all levels
  • Product, Market knowledge & Customer focus
  • Strong commercial, analytical, problem solving & presentation skills
