About The RoleWe are currently undertaking an exciting journey oftransformation, growth and development and as we progress, we are seeking talented individuals who are passionate about delivering an outstanding experience for both members and colleagues in an environmentwhere you will have the opportunity to be part of the future success of the organisation.An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Societys Data & Insight team for an individual to lead complex projects and initiatives which drive strategic decision-making and generate insights and value from the Societys data using data science & advancedanalytic tools, technologies and techniques.You will work closely with business stakeholders operating at senior level (up to and including executive director) to understand their challenges and opportunities, and to provide thought leadership and coordinate the delivery of solutions in support of memberoutcomes and the Societys strategic plan.Youll be playing a pivotal role in maturing the organisations data science capabilities, you will be required to define new approaches for data science and assist in shaping the data science framework in the Society.You will also be responsible for coaching the team of data scientists in programming and data science tools, statistical and mathematical techniques.About YouWe are looking for you to possess extensive experience in data science or advanced analytics with specialist expertise in all areas of data science including AI and machine learning coupled with a broad understanding of data architectures (i.e. Data Engineering,Mathematics & Statistics, and Data Visualisation).

• Expert in programming languages with application in data science (e.g. Python, R, Julia, Perl)
• Expert in writing freehand SQL against both normalised and denormalised data warehouse structures (e.g. via Aginity)
• Highly numerate with expertise in statistical analysis and regression
• Will have a strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, statistics, and machine learning
• Programming tools (e.g. SAS, Matlab, Jupyter)
• Experienced in using Jupyter Notebooks or equivalent
• Software Engineering (Java, .Net, PHP, Ruby, etc.)
• Full understanding of Cloud technology and Architecture (AWS preferred)
• Model deployment, maintenance, publication and API creation

  • Data profiling and intuition
  • Data Modelling
  • Data Wrangling
  • Data preparation for modelling (standardization, regularization, interpolation)
  • Structured data processing (SQL and ETL)
  • Unstructured Data Extraction and Processing (Pub/Sub and pipeline programming)
  • Big Data and Distributed Data/Cloud (Hadoop and related technologies)
  • Knowledge of Data Architecture for Structured and Unstructured data
• Advanced Analytics using Mathematics and Statistics:
  • Statistical modelling
  • Advanced mathematics (calculus, linear and non-Linear regression, logistic regression, and time series analysis models, etc.)
  • Mathematical processes for data reduction (dimensionality reduction)
  • Following scientific methods for optimization
  • Data Mining
  • Machine Learning
  • NLP and Text Mining
  • Experience working with AI & deep learning algorithms and large datasets
• Data Visualisation, storytelling and communication:
  • Data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, Cognos)
  • Story-telling
  • Communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey complex ideas simply, and with a clear narrative to the most senior levels of the organisation.
  • Commercial awareness with ability to question and challenge and put forward new ideas
  • Stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and gain buy in through key working relationships
• Proven track record in coaching and development
• Educated to a masters or doctorate level in either Statistics, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or any other related quantitative field
• Experience in financial services and particularly the building society sector
• Agile methodology
• Experienced in working with other functions in the end-to-end project lifecycle
• Experience in Business Analysis and capturing requirements and identifying data science opportunities
