Costs File Handler Assistant (Disease) - CoventryJob PurposeThe File Handler Assistant will assist and support the Costs Negotiator based within Disease Costs Team, Coventry. This will involve assisting with costs budgeting, statement of costs and end of Claimants costs schedule.This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate wants to start a career in costs law or take the next development step in a fledgling legal career. The successful candidate will receive training, and be provided with day to day supervision and mentoringto grow and develop into the role. Prior experience in handling costs is not essential.The FHA will take on a wide range of delegated tasks over time. Whilst working within a supportive environment with an aligned supervisor. The FHA will be responsible for organising their own work load and ensuring that a satisfactory level of quality andperformance is achieved to ensure effective client service.Key Accountabilities The responsibilities of the FHA will vary depending upon their stage of development, however, it is anticipated that the FHA will work to develop skills and gain an in-depth understanding in:- Guidelines for Court/CPR in completion of costs forms- Client SLAs- Experience in basic costs file handling skills- Broad understanding of assessing a Claimants bill of costs- Financial Management/recording of fees and chargeable hours- Costs handling tacticsProcedural Skills- Pre-action protocols- Detailed understanding of the Civil Procedural Rules- Adapting to client protocols and adopting a client focussed approach- Ensuring processes happen on time and chasing documents as and when required, from insurer clients, insured parties, claimant solicitors, the courts and any other third parties- Capturing MI in a timely and prompt manner- Working within internal benchmarks to ensure quality of workDrafting Skills- Court documentationExperience, Skills and Qualifications - Established interest in law either through further education or experience within a process driven legal environment- Ability to plan and prioritise workloads- Calm under pressure with the ability to re-prioritise and delegate effectively when required- Confident with ability to take initiative to innovate and adapt to changing situations- Good team worker with the flexibility to do what is required to get a result and ensure client service levels are met
