Job Description

Are you an experienced UK food industry professional who is passionate about food and agriculture and driven by making a differenceWe are looking for a good communicator, optimistic in outlook and have a natural ability to take others with you. You will enjoy taking on challenging assignments, using your skills and experience to take charge and show initiative.You will be experienced professional who will guide the NFUs Food Business policy team representing and lobbying Government and businesses across the food supply chain. You will have an ability to assess and evaluate relevant brand, business and national policyissues (including sustainability objectives) affecting food chain and advise how UK farmers and growers can navigate them. You will provide relevant and accurate information to NFU staff and members and be able to communicate persuasively a range of audiences.A team player, you will bring your own strong network from the sector, have a proven track record of being able to build strong internal and external relationships and have proven written and oral communication skills. Above all, you will be able to demonstratea passion for food and farming and a track-record of influencing others.To do all of this you will have a significant level of direct experience within the UK food chain and/or commercial and consumer dynamics of FMCG, out of home or hospitality sectors in addition to experience of the UK retail (food) supply chain.About the role:In this exciting and impactful role, a key responsibility will be overseeing the NFUs relationships with key brands and businesses. You will provide representation on behalf of farmers and growers and direct our work on fairness in the supply chain, workingacross the sectors to establish strategic priorities and implement a programme of work to deliver bespoke solutions to sector challenges.You will also ensure that the NFU maintains and enhances its position as the principal representative of farmers and growers in England and Wales, respected for being solutions-focused and for supply chain and food business knowledge and expertise.Working with your team and policy colleagues, you will secure an increased profile for the work of the NFU in the food chain, including the hospitality and public procurement and retailing sectors and to promote the value/importance of English, Welsh produce.You will also spearhead and embed our policy principles for farm assurance and support its success as a strategic asset for British food and farming.Who are weThe National Farmers Union is the voice of British farming, and our members are at the heart of what we do.
