Job Description

Seven Resourcing are looking for a temporary Traveller Liaison Officer to work in Corby, Northamptonshire. This position is initially for a period of 3 months and is paying £23.00 per hour (paid to you via an umbrella company). The working hours are Monday- Friday from 9am - 5pm.The role: Working within the Northants Traveller Unit (NTU) advise on policy and manage development projects to support the Gypsy and Traveller communities ensuring the Travellers and Gypsies have access to services and entitlements.To directly manage unauthorised encampments across the county and take action under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 and subsequent amendments in relation to unauthorised encampments of Gypsies and Travellers including preparation and serviceof legal documents, attendance at court as well as carry out evictions.Advise senior managers and key councillors from North Northants and West Northants Council. The NTU is part of an inter-agency agreement between both Authorities.Key Responsibilities:

  • To investigate complaints around Traveller encampments of nuisance of accumulations of rubbish, the keeping of animals, filthy and verminous premises and other nuisances in accordance with the Councils responsibilities under the Environmental ProtectionAct 1990 and other relevant legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice.
  • To seek to remedy breaches of statutory nuisance legislation in the first instance by negotiation and persuasion with the transgressor.
  • To prepare evidence for legal proceedings including attendance at and giving evidence to the Courts and public enquiries as a professional witness in defence of Council action,
  • Contribute to the development of Policy plans in relation to the NTU.
  • Lead, develop, monitor and review NTU policies to ensure that they are effective, and they reflect the needs of both Gypsy and Traveller community and settled community as established in the Compact, working with colleagues and members as appropriate.
  • Within the NTU function plan and evaluate service delivery and procedures and ensure the teamwork together effectively.
  • Provide information and advice on the Gypsy and Traveller community across the county to officers, elective members and submit or contribute to reports as necessary.
  • Manage development projects as required direct work with the Gypsy and Traveller community in assessment of individual needs and monitoring of support as required.
Applicant Requirements: Qualifications:
      Educated to HND or NVQ or equivalent experience
