Job Description

Software Development Manager Coleshill, Birmingham £DOE + benefits (25 days holiday, Pension, life Assurance)Headquartered in Coleshill, West Midlands, with a full manufacturing facility, Trakm8 is a UK based technology leader in fleet management, insurance telematics, and optimization and dashboard camera systems. Through IP owned technology, the Group analyses data collected by its installed base of telematics units to fine tune the algorithms that are used to produce its telematics based solutions; these score driver behaviour, monitor vehicle health and continuously improve the security and operational efficiency of both private drivers and company fleets.Trakm8 has been listed on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange since 2005The Role:

  • Day to day management of a large team of software engineers (including remote management) to ensure business objectives are met
  • Plan, allocate and monitor project/maintenance work allocated to the software development team.
  • Regular reporting - to identify issues and risks.
  • Implement strategies to resolve issues and mitigate risks and escalate to senior management when required.
  • Manage priorities in relation to the needs of the business.
  • People management - monitor team members performance and support/coach, identifying any training needs.
  • Assist in recruitment of new team members.
  • Provide input into strategic product direction - technical architectures, design methodologies etc.
  • Help translate business requirements (client or internal) into technical designs and subsequent actions.
  • Ensure that the software development team have clear goals and actions and they are focussed on quality delivery.
  • Champion the software development team within the business and manage all internal/external stakeholder relations.
  • The role will involve travel to Trakm8s other sites in Dorset & Prague and customer sites
    • The Person:
  • The candidate will have experience in full software lifecycle development mostly gained at management level.
  • Exposure to some or all of the following: Firmware (Embedded C), Web Development (PHP, Python, SOAP, XML, XSLT), JavaScript, JSON. Databases (MySQL), Atlassian JIRA Toolset, Linux, python, php, golang, micro-services, Kubernetes, docker, bamboo, Jenkins, git and bitbucket.
  • They should also be very familiar with structured and/or agile development enviroments
  • The candidate will also be a strong people manager who can develope and grow a team and manage workload
  • Management reporting skills along with excellant stakeholder and project management capability
  • A strategic thinker who can provide input in Trakm8 overall product strategy
