We have two positions across ESNEFT, primarily one to each site however presence will from time to time be required in other parts of the Trust.The PostThe post-holder will be responsible with the other Specialist Grade ENT doctors and SpRs for the day to day running of the otolaryngology beds and will provide guidance to the junior doctors in their duties.The timetable allows exposure of the appointee to the work of all of the consultants in the department in their clinics and in supervised operating sessions.In order to conform to the hours of work directive for junior hospital doctors, the medical staff of the ENT Department of Ipswich Hospital works closely with Colchester. The SpR/Specialty Doctors will be on-call on a specific day of the week and do a combined on-call between Colchester and Ipswich Hospital at the weekend (1:8).The ENT DepartmentOn the Ipswich site, where this post will be primarily based, we have a dedicated ENT theatre (Vert) all in-patient and day case operations. There are additional sessions in the South theatre suite. It is fully up to date with equipment including a mobile Leica F40 microscope,a ceiling mounted Zeiss microscope, the latest generation nerve monitor, CO2 laser, Skeeter drill, Hopkins Rod Operating Otoscopes, a full range of FESS kit including HD monitors and the latest generation Medtronic microdebrider and washer, Olympus Video Stroboscope.On the Colchester site, where this post will be primarily based, we have a dedicated ENT theatre with laminar flow located on Elmstead Day Unit for all in-patient and day case operations. It is fully up to date with equipment including a new Leica F40 microscope, the latest generation nerve monitor, CO2 laser, Skeeter drill, Hopkins Rod Operating Otoscopes, a full range of FESS kit including HD monitors and the latest generation Medtronic microdebrider and washer, Harmonic scalpel, Olympus Video Stroboscope.The departments on both sites are well supported by an Audiology Department and a Department of Hearing Therapy. As well as standard audiometry we have ERA, OAE, VNG and a hearing aid service. A multidisciplinary balance team has been constituted.
