Job Description

Head of Finance - London/hybrid - Up to £60,000 plus bonusMy client, an award winning charity with operations in Central London, is looking to recruit a Head of Finance offering hybrid working. The role is accountable for the effective Governance and financial management of the charity, enabling the charity to develop and grow, while safeguarding and improving its reputation. The successfulcandidate will have line management responsibilities for one Senior Finance Executive.Key responsibilities:

  • Production of annual budget and business plan with the Director of Charities and relevant budget holders for presentation to the Board of Trustees
  • Maintaining strong financial controls within the charity through regular process and policy review as well as staff training
  • Liaison with external auditors, advisors and internally, Group Finance, as required
  • Assistance and advice for fundraising staff on contracts, governance and other legal/compliance issues, in conjunction with Group Finance, Tax and Legal departments as well as external advisors, as required
  • Cash forecasting and Treasury management of financial assets and reserves, including liaison with external advisors (where required)
  • Analysis of performance and trends to support plans and ensure accurate and effective reporting internally and at Board level, including focus on cost control and expense ratio
  • Reviewing monthly payroll and changes ahead of approval, ensuring journals are processed correctly.
Key skills:
  • Qualified accountant with previous management accounts experience, ideally within a charity/not for profit environment
  • Technical knowledge of accounting standards and Charity SORPs
  • Strong understanding of internal controls
  • Strong understanding of the charity sector and governance best practice
  • Line management experience
  • Strong understanding of financial systems
  • Experience of financial business partnering; communicating with and presenting to non-finance staff
  • Strong communications expertise - able to simplify complex financial information for a range of internal partners.
