Job Description

Our client is looking for an exceptional journalist to join its City of London-based news desk as Deputy Editor - Specialist Finance.With outstanding editing and newsgathering experience, the successful candidate will have the ability to write and edit in-depth news articles across print and digital platforms.As Deputy Editor - Specialist Finance you will be responsible for covering the UK specialist finance sector from bridging finance to factoring - as well as everything in between.The successful candidate will be expected to build up and cultivate an extensive book of industry contacts and supply a regular flow of exclusive news articles, along with longer in-depth features exploring wider industry trends.The ideal candidate will be able to make quick decisions, have an eye for detail and work well in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.With strong opportunities for progression this role is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take the next steps in their career.A NCTJ qualification is preferable (but not essential) and candidates should have at least 3 years’ experience in journalism.The role will see the successful candidate:

  • Work with and support the Publishing Editor to develop content across print and digital platforms.
  • Commission content and source and manage contributors.
  • Sub-edit site content, ensuring the accuracy of both content and grammar whilst checking that all content complies with house style.
  • Write and commission news and features for a large, knowledgeable audience.
  • Engage with the industry to ensure a close understanding of market developments.
  • Have daily contact with key market figures to build relationships and gather news.
  • Contribute to the development of new products in response to insights gained from research and market analysis.
  • Support and promote brand activity at both internal and external events whilst acting as a brand ambassador.
  • Support the events and sales teams as required.
  • The successful candidate will:
  • Be resilient and able to work under pressure.
  • Have a proven ability to hit deadlines.
  • Have, or be willing to gain, a working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Google Analytics and social media platforms.
  • Have excellent networking skills and a strong ability to build and manage contacts.
  • Be self-motivated with the initiative to drive projects forward whilst meeting tight deadlines.
  • Have a proven track record of setting high editorial standards.
  • Be willing to travel to meetings and events including some evening and weekend work.
  • Salary will be dependent upon experience and the successful candidate will be based at our offices in Austin Friars, London. Required skills
