Hedges Direct Ltd has an opportunity for a Grower/ Plant Care Operative to join the team based in Chorley, near Preston. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis and you will be offered a competitive salary of £20-22k per annum depending on your level of experience with opportunity to progress for the right candidate.Hedges Direct Ltd are online hedging specialists, with decades of industry experience and a culture firmly focused on quality and service. We supply large quantities of hedging to landscapers, garden designers, builders, hotels, pub chains and also a significant proportion to retail customers across the UK and also in parts of Europe.TheGrower/ Plant Care Operative RoleWe are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Grower/ Plant Care Operative who is passionate about plants and all things horticulture to come and work with at our retail (online) and wholesale plant nursery. You will be responsible for the care and maintenance of our extensive onsite plant stock holding, ensuring that all plants are ready to meet our high-quality standards. You will be provided with on the job training within the business, but previous horticultural nursery experience is essential in this role.Working Hours40 hours per week from 07:30am-16:30pm Monday-Friday.This will also include two paid 15-minute breaks per day in addition to an unpaid lunch hour.Voluntary overtime will also be available in our peak spring and autumn seasons, paid at time and a half.Some weekend work may be required at certain times of the year to ensure plants are kept watered during warm weather.Key responsibilities as our Grower/ Plant Care Operative:- Ensuring all plants are received and stood down on nursery beds in good condition.- Responsible for the upkeep of all plants on site ensuring they are always meeting a high-quality standard.- Spraying for weeds, pests and diseases where required- formal training will be provided for this but previous experience would be preferred.- Ensure irrigation system is maintained and used effectively with plants being watered to an agreed regime.- Help business to reduce plant waste- Hold weekly meeting with our Nursery Manager on any areas of improvement required to care for our plants and agree action plan for following week.- Prepare for and participate in stock takes on a monthly basis.- Health and Safety – We are committed to keeping everyone in our business safe, therefore it is essential that the candidate adheres to health and safety procedures at all times.Skills and experience required:- Previous experience working on nurseries or with plants is essential for this role.- Confident personality with a can do attitude.- Impeccable attention to detail and a real passion for plants and horticulture.- Ability to work independently upon instruction- Excellent organisational skills.- Spraying license- PA1, PA5 and PA6 preferred but not essential.Benefits as our Grower/ Plant Care Operative will include:- 28 days holiday (including bank holidays and extended Christmas break).- Team Christmas party- Free tea and coffee- Auto enrolment pension scheme- Free on-site car parking- Voluntary overtime available during peak periods (paid at time and a half)- Training OpportunitiesIf you feel that you have the required skills and experience to join us as our Grower/ Plant Care Operative,please click ‘apply’ now, we’d love to hear from you!
