New initiatives such as a representation project will improve the visitor experience and make the property a major attraction in the South West. This is an exciting time for Dyrham Park and the team is looking for engaging customer-focused people who will bring energy and ideas to this vibrant property.For more information about our property please visit What youll be doing As a hands-on Gardener, you’ll assist in making sure that the gardens are maintained to a high standard. You’ll be passionate and enthused and knowledgeable about the varied plants within the garden.This role is one of two full time gardener roles at Dyrham, who work with the Senior Gardener, part time Assistant Gardener and 76 garden related volunteers (including those who help with Admin, Databases and Machinery maintenance) to curate and develop the garden in accordance with our presentation plans.The successful applicant will have responsibility for both the Pool borders, and the ‘Lost’ Terraces woodland. The Pool borders involve extensive mixed borders with a wide variety of trees, shrubs, perennials, and bulbs, along with some semi-formal lawns and 2 large ponds with a cascade. The Terraces are currently managed as a small woodland garden, with earthworks from the 17th Century, and overlook the Formal gardens.This role therefore offers a wide range of horticultural experience and would suit someone who is interested in more nature friendly methods of gardening, but also with opportunity to assist with larger tasks in the 17th Century style Formal gardens and Orchard. Experience in pond and woodland maintenance, as well as general horticulture, would be an advantage.The role would also be responsible for soil health and composting, and machinery maintenance, so an understanding of these areas will be required.Previous involvement in volunteer management is required, as you would be directly line managing 11 volunteers (including machinery maintenance) with additional day to day management of other volunteers on larger tasks, helping them to make the most of their time here.You’ll be expected to interact with the public on a daily basis, answering the many questions, helping them get the best out of their visit.You will also be required to work on a Rota to cover weekend duties.Please also read the full role profile attached to this advert Who were looking for To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate the below:

  • Trained as a professional gardener/horticulturalist with a good level of practical experience.
  • RHS Level 2 or equivalent.
  • Have proven practical gardening/horticulture experience, as well as a strong knowledge of plants
  • Confidence to participate in garden activities and events
  • Competence with machinery/equipment use and maintenance; including tractors, chainsaws, and pedestrian mowers with accreditation as required for Health and Safety compliance.
