Job Description

Working for our client, you’ll not be just a number; you’ll be part of a hardworking dedicated small Payroll team who ensure that all our employees are paid each month.This is a new role, working in a busy Payroll team, within an HR Shared Services Team, who are responsible for payroll processing for several thousand employees each month. The key function of the team is to accurately process all pay related data ranging from variable pay such as overtime to tax codes changes to ensure that our employees are accurately paid as well as processing payments for HMRC and our benefit suppliers. This year has been especially busy for the payroll team as they’ve been processing furlough payments for employees and reclaiming money from HMRC. The role of the Assistant Payroll Manager is to supervisor the Payroll Team and ensure the payrolls are processed accurately each month and to also deputise for the Payroll Manager during periods of their absence.Some of your duties will include:

  • Supervising the Payroll Officers resolving all technical queries that arise and undertake monthly 1-1s and appraisals
  • Assisting in tax year year-end procedures and returns to ensure they are completed adequately and annual documents are filed on time (e.g. P35 and P60 documents)
  • Identifying and implementing agreed Payroll-related systems developments to benefit the department and Company, such as automating processes and implementing legislative requirements
  • Participating in team or company projects as the payroll subject matter expert
  • You should have a detailed knowledge of how payroll is processed across a multi-site environment including variable pay processing and also HMRC procedures and requirements.You’ll have strong organisational and prioritisation skills to ensure we meet critical deadlines.It would be great if you’re a member of CIPP and you should be able to demonstrate experience of supervising a payroll team and also have strong Excel skills.This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy payroll team which will offer development opportunities.
